By helping patients and families understand treatment goals and manage difficult symptoms, the consultant will support better quality of life, appropriate care decisions, and coordinated transitions throughout the course of serious illness.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients with advanced, progressive, chronic, or life-limiting illnesses who require specialist palliative care.
• Conduct comprehensive evaluations covering physical symptoms, psychological concerns, functional status, social circumstances, and care priorities.
• Develop individualized palliative treatment plans based on disease stage, symptom burden, prognosis, and patient preferences.
• Provide expert management of cancer-related and non-cancer pain.
• Optimize analgesic therapy according to symptom severity, comorbidities, treatment response, and adverse effects.
• Manage complex symptoms including breathlessness, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, constipation, delirium, anxiety, and sleep disturbance.
• Address symptoms associated with advanced neurological, cardiac, respiratory, renal, and other chronic diseases.
• Review medication regimens and reduce unnecessary or burdensome treatment where clinically appropriate.
• Provide consultation for patients experiencing difficult-to-control symptoms despite standard treatment.
• Support patients receiving active oncology treatment who require concurrent palliative and supportive care.
• Coordinate symptom management during advanced cancer treatment and disease progression.
• Conduct regular reassessment to evaluate symptom control and modify treatment accordingly.
• Facilitate discussions regarding goals of care with patients and families.
• Lead sensitive conversations concerning prognosis, treatment limitations, and changing priorities.
• Support advance care planning according to applicable legal, ethical, and institutional requirements.

Ideal Profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.

• Appropriate UAE Consultant license, eligibility, or ability to obtain the required professional license.
• Minimum 5 years of post-board or post-fellowship consultant-level experience in palliative care.
