Role Context

The Consultant Hematology Oncologist - Advanced Cancer Care will provide comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow-up for patients with hematological diseases and solid tumors. The role combines complex clinical decision-making with systemic anticancer therapy, interpretation of bone marrow and molecular investigations, supportive care, survivorship planning, and multidisciplinary coordination. The consultant will also contribute to service development, clinical governance, research, education, and continuous improvement across the cancer care pathway.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patients with benign and malignant hematological conditions.
• Diagnose and treat anemia, coagulation disorders, leukemias, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, and other blood diseases.
• Assess patients with solid tumors and develop evidence-based oncology treatment strategies.
• Create individualized treatment plans using chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and supportive care.
• Review treatment suitability based on diagnosis, disease stage, molecular findings, comorbidities, and patient preferences.
• Interpret bone marrow biopsy findings, pathology reports, flow cytometry, molecular testing, and relevant imaging studies.
• Monitor response to systemic therapy and adjust treatment according to clinical and laboratory findings.
• Identify and manage treatment-related complications, hematological emergencies, and adverse effects.
• Provide survivorship care and long-term monitoring for patients completing active cancer treatment.
• Coordinate palliative and supportive care when appropriate to disease stage and patient needs.
• Participate actively in multidisciplinary tumor boards and complex cancer case discussions.
• Collaborate with surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Contribute to development and expansion of Hematology Oncology services and clinical pathways.
• Support patient safety, clinical governance, accreditation, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
• Maintain accurate consultation notes, treatment protocols, chemotherapy records, investigation findings, and follow-up documentation.
• Provide teaching, supervision, and mentorship to junior physicians, residents, nurses, and allied healthcare staff.
• Participate in CME programs, departmental education, and professional training activities.
• Contribute to clinical research, audits, publications, presentations, and clinical trials where applicable.
• Remain current with advances in precision medicine, molecular oncology, hematology, and emerging anticancer therapies.

Ideal Profile

• Medical degree such as MBBS or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Completion of accredited specialty training in Internal Medicine.
• Fellowship or recognized subspecialty training in Hematology Oncology.
• Board Certification in Hematology, Medical Oncology, or Hematology-Oncology.
• Minimum 3-5 years of post-board or fellowship experience as a Consultant Hematology Oncologist.
• Strong clinical expertise in hematological malignancies and solid tumors.
• Demonstrated experience managing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and supportive care.
• Confident interpreting bone marrow biopsies, molecular diagnostics, pathology findings, and oncologic imaging.
• Experience in tertiary care hospitals, comprehensive cancer centers, or academic institutions is preferred.
• Exposure to stem cell transplantation programs is desirable.
• Experience with precision medicine and molecular oncology is advantageous.
• Participation in oncology research or clinical trials is highly valued.
• Valid DHA Consultant License or eligibility to obtain consultant-level licensing in Dubai.

• Fluency in English is required.
