Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and manage congenital, degenerative, traumatic, infectious, neoplastic, and deformity‑related spinal disorders.

Job Overview

Consultant - Orthopedic Spine Surgery in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is a senior role for an experienced surgeon specializing in complex adult and pediatric spinal conditions.


The position requires advanced diagnostic, conservative, and surgical care for congenital, degenerative, traumatic, infectious, neoplastic, and deformity‑related spine disorders, including minimally invasive spine surgery, decompression, fusion, disc replacement, deformity correction, revision procedures, and spinal trauma management.


Key responsibilities include operative care, postoperative follow‑up, emergency spine management, multidisciplinary coordination, and quality improvement initiatives.


Salary: 80,000-110,000.


Role Context

The consultant will lead the assessment and management of patients with complex spinal disease, injury, deformity, instability, and neurological compromise.


They will determine whether conservative treatment, interventional care, or surgery provides the most appropriate clinical pathway, and will support quality improvement, clinical audit, education, and the development of junior medical professionals.


Key Responsibilities


  • Diagnose and manage congenital, degenerative, traumatic, infectious, neoplastic, and deformity-related spinal disorders.

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, physical examination, neurological evaluation, and functional assessment.

  • Review previous treatment, comorbidities, pain patterns, mobility limitations, and surgical risk factors.

  • Request and interpret X-rays, CT scans, MRI studies, bone scans, and other relevant diagnostic investigations.

  • Correlate imaging findings with clinical symptoms and neurological signs.

  • Develop individualized treatment plans using surgical and non-surgical management approaches.

  • Recommend medication, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, bracing, injections, observation, or surgery as clinically appropriate.

  • Perform minimally invasive spine surgery using approved techniques and clinical privileges.

  • Conduct spinal decompression procedures for nerve root or spinal cord compression.

  • Perform spinal fusion for instability, degeneration, trauma, deformity, or other appropriate indications.

  • Undertake disc replacement procedures for selected patients.

  • Perform spinal deformity correction for scoliosis, kyphosis, and other complex alignment disorders.

  • Conduct revision spine surgery for failed procedures, implant complications, recurrent compression, or non-union.

  • Manage adult and pediatric spinal trauma according to established emergency protocols.

  • Participate in urgent surgical intervention where neurological function or spinal stability is at risk.

  • Prepare detailed preoperative surgical plans covering approach, instrumentation, imaging, blood requirements, and risk mitigation.

  • Explain diagnosis, treatment alternatives, surgical risks, expected benefits, and recovery requirements to patients and families.

  • Obtain informed consent in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate perioperative care with anesthesia, intensive care, nursing, rehabilitation, and allied health teams.

  • Review patients after surgery and monitor neurological status, pain, mobility, wound healing, and functional progress.

  • Identify and manage postoperative complications promptly.

  • Develop structured follow-up and rehabilitation plans to support recovery and long‑term spine health.

  • Collaborate with neurologists, neurosurgeons, pain management specialists, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation physicians.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case discussions, and complex treatment planning.

  • Maintain accurate and timely consultation notes, operative reports, consent records, prescriptions, and discharge documentation.

  • Ensure all records comply with DHA regulations, hospital policies, and professional standards.

  • Follow patient safety, surgical safety, infection control, confidentiality, and ethical medical practice requirements.

  • Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Review surgical outcomes, complications, readmissions, and patient‑reported results.

  • Support continuing medical education, clinical research, publications, and academic activities.

  • Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare professionals where applicable.

  • Contribute to departmental protocols, clinical pathways, and spine service development.

  • Participate in on‑call and emergency coverage according to departmental requirements.


Ideal Profile


  • MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.

  • Completion of a recognised residency programme in Orthopedic Surgery.

  • Fellowship or formal subspecialty training in Spine Surgery.

  • Board certification or equivalent qualification in Orthopedic Surgery.

  • DHA licence, DHA Eligibility Letter, or eligibility for consultant‑level licensing in Dubai.

  • Minimum eight to ten years of post‑specialisation experience.

  • Significant clinical and surgical experience in orthopedic spine surgery.

  • Proven expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal fusion, decompression, disc replacement, and deformity correction.

  • Strong experience performing complex revision spine procedures.

  • Demonstrated competence managing adult and pediatric spinal conditions.

  • Experience treating spinal trauma and urgent neurological compromise.

  • Previous employment within a tertiary care hospital or internationally accredited healthcare institution is preferred.

  • Additional certification in minimally invasive spine surgery or advanced spinal techniques is advantageous.

  • Advanced knowledge of spinal anatomy, biomechanics, instrumentation, and neurological assessment.

  • Strong clinical judgement and complex surgical decision‑making ability.
