Consultant Neurosurgeon – Tertiary Care

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage the full spectrum of neurosurgical conditions, including brain tumors, spinal disorders, traumatic brain and spine injuries, vascular lesions, functional neurosurgical conditions, hydrocephalus, and complex neurological presentations.
• Perform advanced neurosurgical procedures using microsurgical, endoscopic, minimally invasive, image‑guided, and technology‑assisted techniques.
• Lead surgical planning for high‑acuity cases by reviewing clinical findings, imaging, neurological status, patient risks, operative options, and expected outcomes.
• Oversee the complete surgical pathway, including pre‑operative evaluation, patient counselling, consent, intra‑operative decision‑making, post‑operative monitoring, and long‑term follow‑up.
• Collaborate with neurology, ICU, oncology, radiology, anesthesiology, pain management, rehabilitation, nursing, pathology, and allied healthcare teams.
• Lead multidisciplinary case discussions, tumour boards, spine meetings, neuro‑vascular reviews, pain management discussions, and complex care planning sessions.
• Use advanced neurosurgical technologies such as neuronavigation, intra‑operative imaging, neuro‑monitoring, surgical microscopy, endoscopy, and minimally invasive access systems.
• Manage emergency and elective neurosurgical cases while maintaining high standards of patient safety, surgical precision, infection control, and perioperative care.
• Participate in clinical governance, audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, outcome monitoring, protocol development, and neuroscience service improvement initiatives.
• Teach and mentor residents, fellows, junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals through ward rounds, surgical teaching, case reviews, and structured clinical guidance.
• Engage in research, innovation, academic activity, publications, and evidence‑based practice to enhance neurosurgical outcomes and service quality.
• Maintain accurate medical records, operative notes, consultation reports, consent documentation, discharge summaries, follow‑up plans, and clinical audit data.
• Ensure all clinical practice follows DHA requirements, hospital policies, international quality standards, ethical medical care, and documentation protocols.

Ideal Profile

• CCT, FRCS Neurosurgery, American Board Certification, or equivalent Tier‑1 qualification.
• Minimum 8‑10 years of post‑specialty training experience in neurosurgery.
• Proven experience working in high‑acuity tertiary care or academic medical centres.
• Eligibility for DHA consultant licence.
• Strong experience in managing tumours, trauma, spine disorders, vascular lesions, functional neurosurgical cases, and complex neurosurgical emergencies.
• Proficiency with advanced neurosurgical technologies, including neuronavigation, intra‑operative imaging, and neuro‑monitoring.
• Strong operative background in microsurgical, endoscopic, and minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques.
• Sub‑specialty interest in neuro‑oncology, spine surgery, neuro‑vascular surgery, functional neurosurgery, or minimally invasive neurosurgery is preferred.
• Excellent leadership, communication, decision‑making, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
• Ability to guide residents, fellows, junior doctors, and allied health professionals in a structured learning environment.
