Consultant – Geriatric Medicine in Dubai, United Arab Emirates is a senior hospital and health care opportunity focused on comprehensive care for older adults with complex medical, cognitive, functional, psychological, and social needs. Allocation Assist Middle East is hiring a compassionate consultant to manage age‑related conditions, multiple comorbidities, frailty, dementia, falls, polypharmacy, and functional decline. The role requires advanced expertise in Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, multidisciplinary care planning, healthy aging, rehabilitation, and care transitions. The consultant will collaborate with physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, pharmacists, and palliative care specialists to improve independence, safety, and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions affecting older adults.
  • Conduct Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments covering medical, functional, cognitive, psychological, medication, and social factors.
  • Review mobility, nutrition, continence, sensory function, living arrangements, and caregiver support.
  • Develop individualised care plans for patients with multiple comorbidities and complex healthcare needs.
  • Manage dementia, delirium, frailty, falls, osteoporosis, incontinence, mobility disorders, and functional decline.
  • Assess patients with memory loss, behavioural changes, confusion, and reduced decision‑making capacity.
  • Identify reversible causes of cognitive or functional deterioration.
  • Review complex medication regimens and reduce inappropriate polypharmacy where clinically suitable.
  • Evaluate medication interactions, treatment burden, adherence, and adverse effects.
  • Coordinate chronic disease management for patients with cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, neurological, and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Promote preventive healthcare, vaccination, nutrition, physical activity, and healthy aging.
  • Develop falls prevention and bone health management plans.
  • Support patients with rehabilitation, mobility, and independence goals.
  • Coordinate care with primary care physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and social workers.
  • Collaborate with palliative care teams when patients require symptom management, advance care planning, or end‑of‑life support.
  • Provide specialist consultation for hospitalised elderly patients.
  • Support safe transitions between inpatient, outpatient, rehabilitation, long‑term care, and community settings.
  • Participate in discharge planning and reduce avoidable readmissions.
  • Communicate diagnoses, treatment options, risks, and care priorities clearly to patients and families.
  • Support caregivers with practical guidance on dementia, mobility, medication, nutrition, and safety.
  • Respect patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and informed decision‑making.
  • Maintain accurate consultation notes, assessment findings, treatment plans, referrals, and follow‑up records.
  • Ensure clinical documentation complies with applicable UAE healthcare regulations and hospital policies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and complex care discussions.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of geriatric medicine services.
  • Support age‑friendly healthcare initiatives across clinical and operational settings.
  • Develop clinical pathways, protocols, and best‑practice standards for elderly care.
  • Participate in patient safety, clinical governance, and quality improvement programmes.
  • Review outcomes, falls, readmissions, medication‑related events, functional decline, and care delays.
  • Provide teaching, mentorship, and supervision to physicians, residents, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Promote awareness of geriatric medicine principles among healthcare teams and caregivers.
  • Participate in Continuing Medical Education and departmental educational activities.
  • Contribute to clinical research, audits, presentations, publications, and evidence‑based practice initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of advances in geriatric medicine, dementia care, frailty, and healthy aging.
Ideal Profile
  • MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
  • Accredited specialty training in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or another relevant medical specialty.
  • Fellowship or formal subspecialty training in Geriatric Medicine.
  • Board certification or equivalent recognised qualification in Geriatric Medicine.
  • Eligibility for consultant‑level medical licensing in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Minimum three to five years of post‑board or post‑fellowship experience as a Consultant Geriatrician.
  • Advanced expertise in Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment.
  • Strong experience managing medically complex older adults with multiple comorbidities.
  • Practical knowledge of dementia, delirium, frailty, falls, osteoporosis, polypharmacy, and mobility disorders.
  • Experience in tertiary hospitals, rehabilitation centres, long‑term care facilities, or academic medical institutions is preferred.
  • Previous involvement in geriatric service development or age‑friendly healthcare programmes is advantageous.
  • Experience designing clinical pathways, protocols, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Academic, research, audit, publication, or presentation experience is beneficial.
  • Excellent clinical judgement and patient‑centred decision‑making skills.
  • Strong leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration capability.
  • Clear and compassionate communication with elderly patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Arabic language proficiency is an advantage.
