Key Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and manage adult psychiatric and behavioural health conditions.
- Treat depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and related mental health conditions.
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric interviews and mental status examinations.
- Review medical history, medication use, family background, psychosocial circumstances, and previous psychiatric treatment.
- Assess suicide risk, self‑harm risk, aggression, vulnerability, and safeguarding concerns.
- Develop individualised treatment plans based on diagnosis, severity, patient needs, and current clinical evidence.
- Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medication within approved clinical privileges.
- Review therapeutic response, medication adherence, side effects, interactions, and ongoing treatment requirements.
- Provide psychotherapy, supportive counselling, psychoeducation, and behavioural interventions where appropriate.
- Refer patients for specialised psychological therapy when additional expertise is required.
- Manage inpatient psychiatric cases requiring observation, stabilisation, and structured treatment.
- Provide outpatient consultation and long‑term follow‑up for patients with chronic mental health conditions.
- Deliver crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric assessment when required.
- Support the management of severe agitation, psychosis, suicidal behaviour, acute mood disturbance, and other psychiatric emergencies.
- Determine whether patients require admission, urgent referral, close monitoring, or community‑based follow‑up.
- Collaborate with psychologists, neurologists, primary care physicians, social workers, nurses, and therapists.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and treatment planning meetings.
- Coordinate discharge planning and continuity of care between inpatient, outpatient, rehabilitation, and community services.
- Educate patients and families about diagnosis, medication, warning signs, relapse prevention, and recovery planning.
- Communicate treatment information in Arabic and English with clarity and cultural sensitivity.
- Support families in understanding psychiatric conditions and appropriate caregiving strategies.
- Maintain complete and timely consultation notes, psychiatric assessments, treatment plans, prescriptions, and discharge records.
- Ensure documentation complies with applicable UAE healthcare regulations and hospital policies.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and follow ethical mental health practices.
- Obtain informed consent and assess decision‑making capacity where clinically relevant.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, morbidity reviews, and service development.
- Monitor treatment outcomes, readmissions, adverse events, and opportunities to improve psychiatric care.
- Contribute to research, academic presentations, publications, and evidence‑based practice initiatives.
- Participate in continuing medical education and maintain current knowledge of psychiatric treatment.
- Support teaching and supervision of junior physicians, residents, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
- Participate in on‑call, inpatient, outpatient, and emergency psychiatric services as required.
Ideal Profile
- MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
- Board certification, fellowship, or equivalent specialist qualification in Psychiatry.
- Eligibility for consultant‑level medical licensing in Dubai.
- Minimum five to seven years of post‑board consultant experience in Psychiatry.
- Previous experience in a reputable hospital, mental health centre, or specialist psychiatric facility.
- Fluency in spoken and written Arabic is mandatory.
- Strong professional proficiency in English is mandatory.
- Advanced expertise in adult psychiatry and complex mental health management.
- Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, psychotherapy approaches, crisis intervention, and behavioural care.
- Experience managing both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric cases.
- Demonstrated ability to assess suicide risk, self‑harm, aggression, and acute psychiatric deterioration.
- Experience in community psychiatry or multidisciplinary mental health programmes is advantageous.
- Exposure to psychotherapy and behavioural therapy techniques is preferred.
- Academic, teaching, audit, publication, or research experience is beneficial.
- Strong clinical judgement and evidence‑based decision‑making ability.
