Role Context
The Consultant - General Pediatrics will serve as a primary clinical resource for infants, children, and adolescents requiring preventive, acute, and ongoing medical care. The position combines routine developmental monitoring with diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, vaccination, emergency assessment, and coordination with pediatric subspecialists when necessary. Strong communication with parents and caregivers will be essential to ensuring informed decisions, treatment adherence, early intervention, and positive long-term health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine pediatric examinations to evaluate physical health, growth, development, behavior, and age-appropriate milestones.
- Assess infants, children, and adolescents presenting with acute illness, injury, developmental concerns, or chronic medical conditions.
- Diagnose pediatric disorders using clinical examination, medical history, laboratory investigations, imaging, and other diagnostic information.
- Prescribe and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests to identify underlying medical or developmental concerns.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, age, clinical condition, risk factors, and evidence-based pediatric guidelines.
- Prescribe medications, therapeutic interventions, vaccinations, and preventive treatments within approved clinical protocols.
- Provide comprehensive newborn care, including early health assessment, feeding guidance, developmental monitoring, and identification of neonatal concerns.
- Manage common childhood illnesses, infections, respiratory conditions, gastrointestinal problems, allergies and other pediatric presentations.
- Deliver adolescent healthcare covering preventive screening, development, lifestyle guidance, and age-specific medical concerns.
- Respond effectively to pediatric emergencies, stabilize patients when required, and coordinate escalation or specialist intervention.
- Monitor vaccination schedules and provide immunization counselling to parents and caregivers.
- Coordinate care with pediatric subspecialists, nursing teams, diagnostic departments, and other healthcare professionals when additional expertise is required.
- Communicate diagnoses, treatment options, medication instructions, potential risks, preventive measures, and follow-up requirements clearly to families.
- Educate parents and caregivers on nutrition, child development, preventive medicine, home care, infection prevention, and proactive health management.
- Maintain complete, accurate, confidential, and timely pediatric medical records.
- Support patient safety, clinical quality, professional ethics, and evidence-based pediatric practice.
Ideal Profile
- Recognized medical degree with appropriate postgraduate qualification in Pediatrics.
- Board certification in Pediatrics is required.
- Minimum 5 years of post-specialty experience in pediatric medicine.
- Fluency in Arabic is mandatory.
- Strong clinical knowledge covering newborn, infant, childhood, and adolescent healthcare.
- Demonstrated competence in routine pediatric examinations, developmental assessment, immunization, acute illness management, and emergency care.
- Ability to recognize complex or deteriorating pediatric conditions and initiate appropriate escalation.
- Excellent communication skills when working with children, parents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
