Position Overview

The Consultant – Otolaryngology ENT will diagnose and manage a broad range of common, complex and emergency ENT conditions. Responsibilities include outpatient consultations, inpatient management, diagnostic assessment, medical treatment, minimally invasive procedures and advanced surgery for adult and pediatric patients, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Core Duties

• Assess, diagnose and treat adult and pediatric patients with ear, nose, throat, airway, voice, hearing, sleep and head and neck disorders.
• Manage sinusitis, otitis media, hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo, tonsillitis, nasal obstruction, sleep apnea and voice conditions.
• Evaluate and treat benign and malignant head and neck tumours in collaboration with oncology and surgical teams.
• Perform tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, septoplasty, turbinate procedures and other standard ENT surgeries.
• Conduct functional endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic sinus disease, nasal polyps and related conditions.
• Perform microscopic ear surgery, tympanoplasty, mastoid procedures and other otologic interventions within approved privileges.
• Conduct diagnostic and operative laryngoscopy for voice, swallowing, airway and laryngeal disorders.
• Perform head and neck tumour surgery and reconstructive procedures when clinically appropriate.
• Provide surgical and non‑surgical treatment for paediatric ENT conditions.
• Manage ENT emergencies including airway compromise, severe infections, foreign bodies, bleeding and traumatic injuries.
• Interpret CT scans, MRI studies, audiograms, endoscopic findings, vestibular assessments and other diagnostic investigations.
• Conduct nasal endoscopy, flexible laryngoscopy, otomicroscopy and relevant outpatient diagnostic procedures.
• Develop individualised treatment plans based on diagnosis, patient needs, clinical evidence and expected outcomes.
• Explain diagnoses, treatment choices, surgical risks, expected recovery and alternative care options to patients and families.
• Provide pre‑operative assessment, informed consent, post‑operative monitoring and follow‑up care.
• Coordinate integrated treatment with audiologists, speech therapists, radiologists, anaesthesiologists, oncologists and allied healthcare teams.
• Support hearing rehabilitation, voice therapy, swallowing management and post‑operative rehabilitation programmes.
• Maintain accurate consultation notes, operative reports, consent documentation, treatment plans and discharge records.
• Ensure compliance with Dubai Health Authority regulations, hospital policies, clinical governance requirements and ethical standards.
• Follow infection prevention, surgical safety, safeguarding, confidentiality and quality assurance protocols.
• Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality reviews, patient safety initiatives and service improvement projects.
• Contribute to departmental protocol development, clinical pathways and evidence‑based practice guidelines.
• Participate in Continuing Medical Education, conferences, research, teaching and professional development activities.
• Provide supervision and mentorship to junior physicians, residents, nurses and allied healthcare professionals.

Required Skills and Experience

• MBBS, MD or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
• Board certification in Otolaryngology from the American Board, Royal College or another recognised professional body.
• Completion of accredited residency and specialist training in Otolaryngology.
• Valid Dubai Health Authority Consultant Licence or eligibility for DHA consultant‑level licensing.
• Minimum 5 years of post‑specialisation experience in a tertiary care hospital, academic hospital or advanced ENT facility.
• Proven experience managing both adult and paediatric ENT conditions.
• Strong expertise in medical, procedural and surgical otolaryngology.
• Demonstrated competence in functional endoscopic sinus surgery, ear surgery, laryngoscopy and head and neck procedures.
• Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to interpret imaging, audiology and endoscopic assessments.
• Excellent clinical judgment, operative decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to explain complex conditions and procedures clearly and compassionately.
• Commitment to patient safety, clinical quality, ethical practice and continuous professional development.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and high‑volume healthcare environment.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English. Arabic language skills are an advantage.
