Role Context

The Consultant Pediatric ENT will manage children with disorders affecting hearing, breathing, swallowing, speech development, the upper airway, sinuses, tonsils, adenoids, and middle ear structures. The position combines detailed diagnostic assessment, outpatient management, surgical intervention, postoperative follow-up, and consultation for complex neonatal and pediatric cases. Close collaboration with pediatricians, neonatologists, audiologists, speech therapists, anesthesiologists, and other specialists will support better functional outcomes and continuity of care throughout childhood.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage a broad range of pediatric ear, nose, and throat conditions.
• Treat recurrent otitis, chronic ear disease, hearing loss, tonsillitis, adenoid disease, and related pediatric ENT disorders.
• Assess sinus disease, nasal obstruction, and other upper airway conditions affecting children.
• Diagnose and manage sleep-disordered breathing and pediatric airway abnormalities.
• Evaluate speech and swallowing concerns when an underlying ENT condition may be contributing.
• Manage congenital abnormalities involving the pediatric ear, nose, throat, airway, and related structures.
• Conduct endoscopic examinations where appropriate to assess nasal, pharyngeal, laryngeal, or airway pathology.
• Review audiological assessments and incorporate hearing results into medical and surgical decision-making.
• Interpret relevant CT, MRI, and other imaging studies in conjunction with clinical findings.
• Develop individualized treatment plans using conservative, medical, procedural, and surgical approaches.
• Perform tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for appropriate pediatric indications.
• Insert ventilation tubes for children with recurrent middle ear disease or persistent effusion when clinically indicated.
• Perform pediatric airway surgery and other specialized ENT procedures within the consultant's training and scope.
• Provide specialist consultations to pediatricians, neonatologists, intensivists, and other physicians managing complex cases.
• Monitor treatment response and modify medical or surgical plans according to patient progress.
• Coordinate care with audiologists, speech therapists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Explain diagnoses, treatment choices, surgical risks, recovery expectations, and follow-up requirements clearly to parents and caregivers.
• Maintain accurate consultation notes, diagnostic findings, procedure records, operative reports, and follow-up plans.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, quality improvement programs, clinical audits, and departmental governance.
• Contribute to teaching, clinical research, case discussions, and continuing medical education.
• Stay current with developments in pediatric otolaryngology, airway management, hearing care, and minimally invasive ENT techniques.
• Maintain high standards of patient safety, infection control, evidence-based practice, and family-centered care.

Ideal Profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
• Completion of specialist training in Otolaryngology.
• Fellowship or recognized subspecialty training in Pediatric ENT or Pediatric Otolaryngology.
• Western education, specialist training, or substantial clinical experience in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or an equivalent healthcare system.
• Minimum 5 years of experience practicing as a Consultant Pediatric ENT in a reputable tertiary-care hospital.
• Appropriate DHA, DOH, or MOH Consultant License or eligibility to obtain the required UAE professional license.
• Strong experience in both medical and surgical management of pediatric ENT conditions.
• Proven competence in tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, ventilation tube insertion, airway procedures, and other pediatric ENT surgery.
• Strong clinical expertise in hearing disorders, recurrent ear disease, sinus conditions, sleep-disordered breathing, and congenital abnormalities.
• Ability to interpret endoscopic findings, audiological testing, and relevant diagnostic imaging.
• Strong clinical judgment when managing complex pediatric and neonatal ENT cases.
• Excellent communication and counseling skills when working with children, parents, and caregivers.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary pediatric healthcare teams.
