Overview

Consultant – Allergy & Immunology has a senior role in a hospital and health care setting in Dubai. The position requires an experienced physician specialising in complex allergic, immunologic, and immune‑mediated disorders. Duties include advanced diagnostic testing, allergen immunotherapy, biologic treatment, emergency allergy care, and long‑term disease management for adult and pediatric patients.

Key clinical areas: clinical immunology, allergy testing, asthma, anaphylaxis, immunodeficiency, and multidisciplinary care coordinated with pulmonology, dermatology, ENT, pediatrics, gastroenterology, nursing and allied health professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage allergic rhinitis, asthma, eczema, food allergy, drug allergy, insect venom allergy, urticaria, angioedema, and anaphylaxis.
• Evaluate patients with primary and secondary immunodeficiency disorders.
• Assess autoimmune and immune‑mediated conditions within the scope of allergy and clinical immunology.
• Conduct comprehensive medical history reviews, physical examinations, and allergy‑focused clinical assessments.
• Identify triggers, exposure patterns, family history, previous reactions, comorbidities, and treatment response.
• Perform and interpret skin prick testing according to approved clinical protocols.
• Conduct intradermal testing when clinically appropriate and within authorised practice.
• Perform patch testing for suspected contact allergy.
• Interpret pulmonary function tests where respiratory allergy or asthma assessment is required.
• Request and evaluate serum IgE, immunoglobulin levels, specific antibody studies, and other immunologic investigations.
• Review relevant imaging, laboratory findings, and specialist reports before finalising treatment plans.
• Develop individualised management plans based on diagnosis, severity, patient age, comorbidities, and clinical risk.
• Prescribe pharmacotherapy for allergic and immunologic conditions according to current guidelines.
• Recommend allergen avoidance measures and practical environmental controls.
• Initiate, administer, and monitor allergen immunotherapy.
• Manage adverse reactions associated with allergy desensitisation treatment.
• Prescribe and monitor biologic therapies where clinically indicated.
• Establish emergency action plans for patients at risk of anaphylaxis.
• Provide urgent treatment for severe allergic reactions in accordance with established protocols.
• Educate patients and families on trigger avoidance, medication use, device technique, emergency response, and lifestyle modification.
• Explain treatment benefits, limitations, risks, and follow‑up requirements clearly.
• Support parents and caregivers managing allergy and immunologic conditions in children.
• Coordinate care with pulmonology, dermatology, ENT, pediatrics, gastroenterology, and other specialties.
• Participate in multidisciplinary discussions for patients with complex or overlapping conditions.
• Refer patients for additional investigation or specialist treatment when necessary.
• Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure records, prescriptions, consent documentation, and follow‑up plans.
• Ensure medical documentation complies with DHA requirements, hospital policies, and professional standards.
• Follow infection control, patient safety, medication safety, confidentiality, and ethical practice requirements.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality reviews, morbidity discussions, and service improvement programmes.
• Monitor treatment effectiveness, adverse events, emergency presentations, and clinical outcomes.
• Contribute to clinical research, publications, presentations, and academic activities.
• Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals where applicable.
• Participate in continuing medical education and maintain current knowledge of allergy and clinical immunology.
• Support outpatient, inpatient, and emergency consultation services according to departmental requirements.

Ideal Profile

• MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree from a recognised institution.
• Completion of a recognised residency programme in Internal Medicine or Pediatrics.
• Fellowship or formal subspecialty training in Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
• Board certification or equivalent qualification in Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
• DHA licence, DHA Eligibility Letter, or eligibility for consultant‑level licensing in Dubai.
• Minimum eight to ten years of post‑specialisation experience as a Consultant Allergist and Immunologist.
• Extensive experience diagnosing and treating complex allergic and immunologic disorders.
• Strong practical expertise in skin testing, patch testing, immunologic investigations, and pulmonary assessment.
• Demonstrated experience administering allergen immunotherapy.
• Experience prescribing and monitoring biologic therapies.
• Strong capability in recognising and managing anaphylaxis and other severe allergic reactions.
• Previous employment within a tertiary care hospital or internationally accredited healthcare institution is strongly preferred.
• Advanced understanding of allergy, asthma, immune deficiency, and clinical immunology.
• Strong clinical reasoning and diagnostic decision‑making ability.
• Excellent patient counselling, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with adult and pediatric patients.
• Strong leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration capability.
