Job summary

John Crane, a business of Smiths Group, seeks an experienced CNC Operator to produce high-precision parts by programming machines and setting up operations.

You will read mechanical drawings, prototypes, and electronic files, select tools, run cycles on CNC mills and lathes, and inspect outputs to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.

We value safety, precision, and strong math skills, with CAD/CAM experience and good communication in a global manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as CNC operator with 5+ years of experience.
• Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools (CMM).
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings.
• Computer savvy with understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM.
• Mechanical aptitude and good math skills.
• Good communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Read mechanical drawings, prototype sketches, electronic files and/or verbal instructions to facilitate the manufacturing of parts and assemblies by setting up, and operating CNC mills and lathes, EDM and a variety of general machine shop equipment.
• Understand specifications of the task at hand by reading mechanical drawings etc.
• Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function.
• Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines.
• Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications.
• Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate parts.
• Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result.
• Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly.
• Identify and select the essential tools to fabricate the parts from tooling supplier catalogue.
• Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality.

Job Description

CNC Operators are highly skilled professionals, able to work with great concentration and precision. They must be responsible and comply with all safety guidelines. A keen eye for detail and great mechanical aptitude are also essential.

The goal is to produce high quality precision parts and materials by programming machines to perform the right operations.

Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools (CMM - Coordinate Measuring Machine)

Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings

Computer savvy with understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM

Mechanical aptitude and good math skills

Good communication abilities

ITI, Diploma or equivalent; ITI certificate or diploma in engineering or relevant discipline is a plus
