Overview
Civil Inspector - Landscape and Irrigation opportunity in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The role focuses on site surveillance, construction quality, irrigation networks, landscaping works, underground utilities, concrete activities, and infrastructure inspection. The inspector verifies workmanship, witnesses field tests, documents non-conformance, and ensures activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, codes, and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Carry out continuous inspection of assigned civil, landscape, irrigation, utility, and infrastructure construction activities.
- Confirm that completed work complies with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, codes, and contract requirements.
- Inspect irrigation pipelines, fittings, valves, chambers, controllers, sprinklers, emitters, and associated network components.
- Monitor landscaping works including soil preparation, grading, planting areas, hardscape interfaces, and external improvements.
- Witness soil compaction, moisture content, aggregate grading, concrete slump, air entrainment, compression, and coring tests.
- Verify lines, levels, grades, dimensions, alignments, and survey controls before work proceeds.
- Inspect underground piping to confirm bedding, gradient, joint integrity, pressure tightness, and backfilling requirements.
- Monitor piling installation and check pile positioning, depth, bearing, and supporting records.
- Validate piping systems using approved drawings, pressure testing procedures, and hydraulic test results.
- Review piping and instrumentation information where relevant to installed infrastructure systems.
- Inspect electrical works associated with irrigation and infrastructure installations for grounding, circuit integrity, and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor painting, protective coatings, and insulation to confirm required thickness and continuous coverage.
- Witness destructive and non-destructive tests on metals and other construction materials when included in the project scope.
- Review magnaflux, dye penetrant, radiographic, tension, compression, resistivity, and coating test results where applicable.
- Inspect construction labor and subcontractor activities for workmanship, approved methods, and professional execution.
- Verify alignment, leveling, and balancing of installed equipment.
- Record defective, incomplete, or non-compliant work and support the preparation of non-conformance reports.
- Monitor corrective actions and confirm that rejected work is properly repaired or replaced.
- Participate in the preparation of quality control reports, inspection procedures, checklists, and site records.
- Support the development and implementation of job safety practices and contribute inspection findings to project safety reports.
- Witness or administer welder qualification tests when required by the scope.
- Maintain inspection requests, test reports, photographs, daily records, and supporting technical documentation.
- Coordinate with engineers, laboratories, contractors, and project teams to resolve construction concerns.
- Use project management and reporting software to access information, maintain records, and prepare inspection updates.
- Support testing, completion inspections, snagging, and handover activities.
- Travel to assigned project areas or field locations when operationally required.
Qualifications
- Associate degree, bachelor’s degree, technical diploma, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, construction, or related technical discipline. A high school qualification may be considered with substantial relevant inspection experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction inspection or supervision, with practical background in irrigation, landscaping, utilities, and infrastructure works.
- Recent experience supervising irrigation works in Dubai is advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, technical specifications, and method statements.
- Strong understanding of civil construction processes, testing requirements, and inspection procedures.
- Experience identifying non-conforming work and documenting corrective action requirements.
- Familiarity with concrete, earthworks, underground piping, landscape interfaces, and utility installations.
- Knowledge of destructive and non-destructive testing methods is beneficial.
- Ability to enforce approved project requirements professionally and consistently.
- Strong attention to detail and sound judgment during complex inspection activities.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers, contractors, subcontractors, laboratories, and project stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, basic computer applications, and project management software.
- Willingness to work in active construction environments and travel to field sites when necessary.
