Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in operation and maintenance of centrifugal and screw chillers, chilled water plants – Air Cooled and Water Cooled, or district cooling facilities.
  • Preference for candidates with experience working with Chiller OEMs (e.g., OEM service teams or authorized service providers).
  • Knowledge of HVAC and district cooling industry standards and local regulatory requirements.

Job description

The role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and optimization of chiller systems, chilled water plants, and district cooling facilities to ensure reliable, efficient, and uninterrupted cooling services. The role supports preventive and corrective maintenance activities, plant performance optimization, energy management initiatives, and technical assessments while ensuring compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and operational standards. The position works closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to maximize equipment reliability, plant efficiency, and asset lifecycle performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the operation and maintenance of water-cooled and air-cooled chillers, chilled water distribution systems, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, and associated plant equipment.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on chillers and chilled water plant equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and maintenance best practices.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control-related faults affecting chiller and district cooling plant performance.
  • Monitor plant performance parameters including chiller efficiency, energy consumption, chilled water temperatures, flow rates, and system pressures.
  • Analyze plant operating data and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, energy efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Support the commissioning, testing, and performance verification of new chillers, plant upgrades, and retrofit projects.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions to minimize recurrence.
  • Coordinate major overhauls, shutdowns, and maintenance activities with internal teams, OEMs, and specialist contractors.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA systems, and plant control systems associated with chilled water and district cooling operations.
  • Review and verify maintenance records, operating logs, technical reports, and performance data.
  • Participate in energy optimization initiatives, plant efficiency assessments, and sustainability programs.
  • Support spare parts planning, inventory management, and lifecycle replacement strategies for critical plant assets.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with operational, safety, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to technicians and maintenance personnel.
  • Assist in the preparation of maintenance plans, method statements, risk assessments, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, refrigerant handling requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Develop and maintain proactive working relationships with clients, authorities, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical recommendations and support to clients regarding plant performance, reliability, energy efficiency, and asset optimization.
  • Participate in technical meetings and present plant performance reports and improvement recommendations when required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in the operation and maintenance of centrifugal and screw chillers, chilled water plants – Air Cooled and Water Cooled, or district cooling facilities.
  • Preference for candidates with experience working with Chiller OEMs (e.g., OEM service teams or authorized service providers) and District Cooling Plants.
Job Specific Skills
  • Strong technical knowledge of centrifugal chillers.
  • Strong knowledge of chiller preventive maintenance, including annual maintenance activities and condenser cleaning procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of chilled water generation, distribution systems, and district cooling plant operations.
  • Knowledge of cooling towers, condenser water systems, variable flow systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and thermal energy storage systems.
  • Familiarity with HVAC and district cooling industry standards, manufacturer maintenance procedures, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing refrigeration cycle issues, compressor faults, heat transfer inefficiencies, and control system abnormalities.
  • Strong understanding of refrigerants, refrigerant management practices, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA platforms, PLC controls, and plant automation systems.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, technical manuals, control schematics, and engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, and condition-based maintenance techniques.
  • Good understanding of chilled water treatment, including water quality testing, key water chemistry parameters, corrosion inhibitors, and recommended concentration levels.
  • Familiarity with chiller safety interlocks, control sequences, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with star-delta motor starter control panels, including identification and troubleshooting of components such as contactors, timers, overload relays, MCBs/MCCBs, relays, and control wiring.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, CMMS systems, and technical reporting tools.
