Role Summary

The Careers Counsellor plays a key role in supporting student aspiration, wellbeing, and future readiness by delivering high-quality careers guidance, coordinating higher education programmes, and working closely with students, parents, staff, and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group careers counselling for students
• Guide students on post-16 and post-18 pathways including higher education, apprenticeships, work experience, and employment
• Support students with university applications, personal statements, CVs, and application essays
• Prepare students for university interviews and coordinate mock interviews with external professionals
• Manage and coordinate platforms such as Unifrog, UCAS, and the Common App
• Deliver presentations on higher education pathways, personal statements, student finance, and future career trends
• Coordinate and develop Year 10 and Year 12 work experience programmes
• Organise careers fairs, university visits, higher education evenings, and options evenings
• Liaise with employers, universities, and professional organisations to expand student opportunities
• Maintain accurate records of student destinations, exam results, references, and application data
• Produce transcripts, references, and required documentation for applications
• Provide guidance and support on results days including Clearing and post-results decision making
• Support staff with reference writing through training and shared resources
• Stay informed on global higher education trends and labour market developments
• Participate in parent-teacher consultations and wider school events
• Contribute to extracurricular activities and the wider school community
• Foster strong relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and external stakeholders
• Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Leadership Team

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor's degree
• Level 6 Careers Counselling and Guidance qualification or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of UK, USA, Canada, UAE, Europe, and Asia higher education admissions processes
• In-depth understanding of global higher education trends and pathways
• Familiarity with the British education system including GCSEs, A Levels, and BTECs
• Excellent communication, organisational, and event management skills
• Proficiency with careers guidance platforms and digital tools
• Commitment to student wellbeing, aspiration, and holistic development
• Experience in international schools or with diverse student cohorts is an advantage
• Specialist knowledge of Oxbridge, Ivy League, or competitive programmes is desirable
