Role Context
The Business Intelligence Analyst – Retail will support commercial and operational decision-making across GMG's Everyday Goods Retail division. The position is responsible for collecting, validating and interpreting information from multiple business systems to provide reliable visibility into sales, inventory, assortment and store performance.
Through dashboards, analytical models and management reports, the analyst will help stakeholders identify trends, investigate performance gaps and make evidence-based decisions. The role directly contributes to stronger forecasting, better product availability, improved retail execution and greater operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and consolidate commercial and operational data from multiple internal sources.
- Validate data to ensure reports and dashboards remain accurate, complete and consistent.
- Analyze sales, inventory, assortment, availability and store productivity results.
- Develop and maintain dashboards for commercial, retail and operational stakeholders.
- Prepare recurring management reports, KPI trackers and performance summaries.
- Monitor retail indicators including sales growth, stock levels, sell‑through, assortment performance and shelf availability.
- Conduct root‑cause analysis to identify performance gaps, data issues and operational constraints.
- Investigate unusual trends and provide practical recommendations for corrective action.
- Support sales forecasting by analyzing historical performance, seasonality and business drivers.
- Assist with assortment optimization using product, category and store‑level data.
- Provide inventory analysis to improve product availability and reduce excess or slow‑moving stock.
- Translate complex datasets into clear business insights for non‑technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with commercial, finance, operations, supply chain and technology teams.
- Gather reporting requirements and convert them into practical analytical solutions.
- Maintain consistent KPI definitions across reports and business functions.
- Identify manual reporting processes that can be automated or simplified.
- Improve reporting efficiency through better data models, queries and dashboard design.
- Present findings, risks and recommendations in a concise and actionable format.
- Support ad‑hoc analysis requested by senior management and business teams.
- Complete additional reporting and analytical assignments based on operational needs.
Ideal Profile
- Relevant academic qualification in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Finance or a related discipline.
- Professional experience in business intelligence, retail analytics, commercial reporting or data analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting and performance tracking.
- Practical SQL skills for extracting, joining and validating data.
- Experience using Power BI, Tableau or a comparable business intelligence platform.
- Ability to build clear dashboards and meaningful data visualizations.
- Knowledge of retail or FMCG performance indicators.
- Understanding of sales, inventory, assortment, availability and store productivity analysis.
- Familiarity with ERP or SAP environments is preferred.
- Working knowledge of database structures and data management concepts.
- Ability to identify inconsistencies and maintain high standards of data accuracy.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Confidence working with stakeholders across commercial and operational functions.
