The Bartender supports the guest experience by combining beverage craftsmanship with efficient bar service and strong product knowledge. Beyond preparing drinks, the position helps protect beverage quality, control wastage, maintain inventory accuracy, and keep the outlet ready for busy service periods. The role also contributes to team capability by guiding new colleagues and maintaining consistent operating standards throughout each shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to approved recipes, presentation standards, and service procedures.
• Maintain detailed knowledge of spirits, wines, beers, cocktails, mixers, garnishes, and other bar products.
• Engage guests in a friendly and professional manner while recommending suitable beverages and identifying appropriate upselling opportunities.
• Complete mise-en-place before service, including preparing garnishes, replenishing supplies, arranging equipment, and ensuring sufficient stock is available.
• Keep the bar counter, preparation areas, shelves, tools, glassware, and surrounding workspace clean and organised throughout operations.
• Follow established opening and closing procedures and ensure the bar is fully prepared for each service period.
• Monitor beverage usage and stock levels while taking practical steps to reduce spoilage, breakage, over-pouring, and unnecessary wastage.
• Arrange premium spirits and other displayed products professionally while maintaining required display quantities.
• Respond promptly and courteously to guest enquiries and build positive relationships through attentive service.
• Process guest payments accurately through the point-of-sale system and comply with outlet cashiering controls.
• Support new team members through practical on-the-job coaching covering beverage preparation, service routines, and operating procedures.
• Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual inventories of beverages, operating equipment, glassware, and bar supplies.
• Follow HACCP requirements, hygiene procedures, food safety practices, and applicable outlet operating standards.

Ideal Profile

A suitable candidate will have a diploma, vocational qualification, or degree related to hospitality together with practical bartending experience in an upscale service environment.

• Minimum 1-2 years of bartending experience in a 4-5 star hotel, premium restaurant, or fine dining establishment.
• Working knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktail preparation.
• Strong understanding of spirits, wines, beers, mixers, garnishes, and beverage service techniques.
• Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and accurate cash handling procedures.
• Ability to maintain service quality during busy periods without compromising beverage presentation or guest interaction.
• Knowledge of HACCP requirements with the ability to work in full compliance with hygiene and food safety standards.
• Confident communication skills for assisting guests, explaining beverage choices, and recommending suitable products.
• Practical understanding of bar stock control, inventory procedures, spoilage prevention, and wastage reduction.
