Backend Engineer – PHP

MultiBank Group is a 20-year-old regulated fintech with strong fundamentals and significant growth potential. We’re at an inflection point - modernizing our consumer trading platforms (crypto spot and CFD) to capture a major market opportunity during an unprecedented period of trading volatility.

We need experienced PHP Backend Engineers to maintain and modernize our existing systems while building new capabilities.

The Challenge

You’ll work on mature PHP systems that power critical business functions while gradually migrating to modern architectures. This requires engineers who can maintain legacy code, refactor responsibly, and build new features using contemporary best practices.

The role demands pragmatism in balancing technical debt reduction with feature delivery.

What You’ll Do

• Maintain and enhance existing PHP applications and services
• Refactor legacy code to improve maintainability and performance
• Build new features using modern PHP frameworks (Laravel, Symfony)
• Design and implement RESTful APIs
• Optimize database queries and implement caching strategies
• Migrate monolithic systems toward microservices architecture
• Collaborate with frontend teams on API contracts
• Participate in code reviews and architectural planning

What We’re Looking For

• 4+ years of professional PHP development experience
• Strong knowledge of modern PHP (7.4+/8.0+) and frameworks
• Experience with both legacy codebases and modern architectures
• Proficiency with MySQL/PostgreSQL and query optimization
• Understanding of RESTful API design principles
• Experience with Redis, message queues, and caching strategies
• Familiarity with Docker and cloud platforms
• Fintech or e-commerce background preferred
