Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is seeking an Assistant Manager – Electrical (Solar PV Projects) to lead electrical engineering, installation, testing, commissioning and quality control for utility-scale solar PV deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
• 4–8 years in electrical construction and project management, with 2–3 years in solar PV.
• Ability to read schematics and review electrical designs to optimize performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design reviews, SLDs, layouts, cable schedules and protection schemes.
• Supervise installation of PV equipment, HV/EHV substations, and grid interconnection.
• Coordinate testing, pre-commissioning, and grid synchronization with boards and DISCOMs.

Job Title: Assistant Manager – Electrical (Solar PV Projects)

Department: Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) / Renewable Energy

Reports To: Project Manager / Manager – Electrical

Position Overview

The Assistant Manager – Electrical will be responsible for leading the electrical engineering, installation, testing, commissioning, and quality control for utility-scale or commercial & industrial (C&I) solar PV projects. This role involves managing field engineers and contractors, coordinating with interdisciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with grid codes and safety standards, and ensuring projects are executed on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Design & Technical Review
  • Review electrical design drawings, including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layout plans, cable schedules, earthing designs, and protection schemes.
  • Coordinate with design teams to optimize cable sizing, inverter locations, and transformer capacities for minimum losses.
• Project Execution & Site Management
  • Supervise installation of electrical equipment, including solar modules, DC/AC cabling, string combiner boxes, central/string inverters, transformers, and HT switchgears.
  • Oversee the construction and integration of high-voltage (HV/EHV) substations and grid interconnection facilities.
  • Monitor daily site progress, manage resource allocation, and ensure milestones are met according to the project baseline schedule.
• Testing & Commissioning
  • Lead testing and pre-commissioning activities for transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and SCADA systems.
  • Coordinate grid synchronization procedures with state or regional electricity boards and distribution companies (DISCOMs).
• Quality & Safety Assurance
  • Ensure all electrical works adhere to relevant international standards (IEC, IEEE) and local electrical codes.
  • Enforce site-level Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards for high-voltage and low-voltage electrical works.
• Vendor & Stakeholder Management
  • Manage contractors, sub-contractors, and equipment vendors to ensure deliverables meet specifications.
  • Assist in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and joint inspection of major electrical components.

Key Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.E. / B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
• Experience: 4 to 8 years of experience in electrical construction and project management, with a minimum of 2–3 years dedicated to solar PV projects.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, AutoCAD, and PVsyst reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of grid interconnection norms, switchyards, transformer stations, and SCADA/PLC systems.
• Soft Skills: Strong leadership, site management, vendor negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
