We are hiring an Assistant Manager – Mill Mechanical for one of our clients, a leading metal and steel manufacturing company based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute capital shutdowns, monthly shutdowns, and daily maintenance activities while arranging the required materials and manpower
- Ensure the availability of critical spare parts to meet operational requirements and emergencies
- Reduce equipment downtime and achieve MTTR and MTBF targets for mill equipment
- Coordinate regularly with the procurement department and vendors to ensure the timely availability of spare parts
- Maintain accurate maintenance records in both digital and hard‑copy formats
- Ensure workplace safety, implement TPM practices, and maintain high housekeeping standards
- Ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Permit‑to‑Work (PTW), Lockout/Tag out (LOTO), risk assessment procedures, and PPE requirements
- Identify operational risks, environmental aspects, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions, and implement appropriate control measures
- Ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of maintenance waste, including oils, grease, scrap, chemicals, damaged parts, and used consumables
- Monitor safety controls related to rotating equipment, hydraulic systems, lifting operations, EOT cranes, and hot work activities
- Participate in investigations of incidents, near misses, equipment failures, and breakdowns, and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Support emergency preparedness and response activities, including fire safety, evacuation drills, crane emergencies, and mock drills
- Ensure contractor compliance with safety requirements during maintenance, shutdown, and project activities
- Participate in internal and external IMS audits and ensure the timely closure of observations and non‑conformities
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, energy efficiency, safety performance, environmental performance, and maintenance optimization
- Conduct technical training and competency development programs for team members
Authority
- Execute all mechanical maintenance and project activities within the assigned areas of responsibility
- Prepare maintenance budgets for the assigned section and initiate the procurement of spare parts and service contracts as required
- Manage spare parts inventory and service contracts for the assigned section
- Coordinate manpower allocation and recommend leave planning for team members with reporting manager approval
- Stop any unsafe work or activity that may cause injury, equipment damage, or environmental impact
- Recommend technical improvements and maintenance optimisation initiatives
Accountabilities
- Ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and equipment in the Mill and RHF areas
- Manage planned, preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of Mill and RHF equipment
- Reduce equipment downtime and achieve maintenance performance targets, including MTTR and MTBF
- Ensure compliance with IMS, legal, safety, environmental, and operational requirements
- Maintain the availability of critical spare parts and maintenance resources
- Ensure accurate maintenance documentation, record management, and audit readiness
- Complete shutdowns and maintenance activities within the planned schedule
- Support the training, competency development, and skill enhancement of team members
- Conduct annual performance appraisals for the Mill Mechanical team
- Promote continuous improvement in operational reliability, safety culture, energy efficiency, and maintenance effectiveness
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (BE) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME)
- 10–15 years of experience in hot rolling mill projects and mechanical maintenance
