Job summary

Dorchester Collection Dubai is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to lead the hotel’s engineering team and ensure reliable operation of all plant and equipment.

You will develop preventive maintenance, oversee CAPEX projects, and ensure safety standards while collaborating with departments to deliver an exceptional guest experience.

Qualifications

• Recognized engineering and/or project management qualifications.
• 3-year degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanical or related major.
• HVAC-R, electrical and plumbing technical training.
• At least 3 years hands-on experience as Assistant Chief Engineer or Engineering Manager.
• Experience with mechanical and electrical systems, HVAC, refrigeration, boilers and basic construction.
• P&L and cost management skills.
• Strong problem solving and multitasking abilities.
• Excellent communication and a customer-service mindset.
• English is the primary language used in the hotel.

Responsibilities

• Ensure efficient operation of the hotel property and all equipment maintenance and repair services; supervise engineering staff and contractors.
• Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize reliability and minimize downtime.
• Assist in annual CAPEX planning and support long-term maintenance/refurbishment strategies.
• Lead small CAPEX projects from scope through handover, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
• Coordinate with other departments to minimize disruption and maintain guest experience.
• Provide guidance to senior management on engineering, environmental controls, and operational efficiency; ensure regulatory compliance.

What you’ll do

You’ll love what you do and take pride in delighting our guests:

• You will be responsible for the efficient operation of the hotel property and all its equipment maintenance and repair services and protection of the owner’s asset. Supervise an engineering team and contractors. Oversee subordinate managers and supervisors. Manage the condition of structural aspects of the hotel as well as the maintenance of grounds and external facilities all fall within the span of responsibility. Under the guidance of the Director of Engineering assists in coordinating the engineering operations of the hotel in line with Dorchester Collection and the industry standards to ensure our guests receive nothing but the best experience.
• Support the development and execution of the preventive and predictive maintenance program to maximize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and extend asset life.
• Assist in the preparation of the annual Capital Expenditure Plan by identifying asset replacement needs, recommending improvement projects, and supporting the development of long‑term maintenance and refurbishment strategies.
• Lead and support the delivery of small CAPEX projects from initial scope definition and budgeting through contractor selection, project execution, handover, and close‑out, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards.
• Cooperate closely with operational departments to minimize disruption from maintenance activities and ensure engineering services consistently support an exceptional guest experience.
• You’ll also provide advice to senior management on all aspects of engineering support, environmental controls, and the operational efficiency. Ensure adherence to all statutory regulations and codes by regularly reviewing policies and safety procedures. Ensure that all records and documentation associated with tests and surveys are correctly kept.

• You will comply with the departmental/corporate SOP & LSOP. Will ensure implementation of Dorchester Collection Policies, Standards and Procedures in relation to Engineering fairly and consistently. Will be aware of all existing departmental job safety analysis and strive to work in an accident‑free manner and to create a safe working environment for self and for others.

What you’ll bring

• You’ll bring your unique personality and passion to the role and the team.
• Recognized Engineering and / or project management professional qualifications. 3-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanical, or related major. Technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing.
• At least 3 years of hands‑on experience in an Assistant Chief Engineer or Engineering Manager role.
• You have a talent for and proven experience in engineering, complex Mechanical/Electrical systems, HVAC, Plumbing, Refrigeration, Chillers, Boilers and basic construction. Excellent understanding of legislative requirements eg. Health and Safety, Trading Standards.
• Ability to manage several projects simultaneously. P&L and cost management – competent accounting skills.
• Effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize various project. assignments.
• Personal integrity, with the ability to work in an environment that demands excellence, time and energy.
• Communication is what keeps our departments running perfectly. You have great communication skills with a strong customer service ethic.
• English is the primary language used in our hotel. You can comfortably communicate in this language.
