Job summary

Role Context

The AI Data Governance - Privacy and Risk position acts as a second-line governance authority for the organization's expanding use of data and artificial intelligence. Its purpose is to create the policies, controls, accountability structures, and oversight mechanisms required to extract business value from emerging technologies without compromising privacy, regulatory compliance, security, or ethical standards. The role becomes increasingly important as AI and advanced analytics are introduced across underwriting, claims, finance, reinsurance, customer service, and corporate operations. Working across Technology, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Information Security, Internal Audit, and business functions, the officer will establish a consistent approach to responsible innovation throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and operate an enterprise AI Governance Framework covering the development, approval, deployment, monitoring, modification, and retirement of AI systems.
• Define policies, standards, controls, and operating procedures governing artificial intelligence across the enterprise.
• Develop specific governance models for Agentic AI, Generative AI, machine learning, advanced analytics, and intelligent automation.
• Lead the AI Governance Committee and establish clear accountability for the review and approval of AI initiatives.
• Create AI risk assessment and approval processes based on business use, system criticality, data sensitivity, and potential impact.
• Ensure AI initiatives remain aligned with regulatory obligations, ethical AI principles, security policies, enterprise risk requirements, and business objectives.
• Implement lifecycle governance covering AI development, validation, deployment, monitoring, change management, and retirement.
• Establish controls for AI explainability, fairness, bias management, human oversight, model monitoring, prompt governance, and auditability.
• Develop and maintain the enterprise data governance framework across structured and unstructured information.
• Establish formal data ownership and stewardship responsibilities throughout business and technology functions.
• Define enterprise standards for data quality, metadata management, master data management, data lineage, retention, and classification.
• Lead data cataloguing, information inventory, and lineage initiatives that improve visibility and accountability for enterprise data.
• Introduce appropriate data governance tools and automated controls across enterprise platforms.
• Drive data quality improvement initiatives and establish measurable standards for critical business information.
• Govern enterprise data platforms, analytics environments, data lakes, and Generative AI platforms.
• Lead privacy and data protection compliance programs across relevant business operations.
• Perform Data Protection Officer responsibilities where required by applicable regulation.
• Maintain governance frameworks supporting UAE PDPL, DIFC Data Protection Law, GDPR, and other applicable regional privacy requirements.
• Oversee Data Protection Impact Assessments, privacy risk assessments, and third-party privacy reviews.
• Embed Privacy by Design principles into technology, data, AI, product, and transformation initiatives.
• Govern data subject rights requests, consent management, cross-border data transfer assessments, and privacy breach response processes.
• Establish enterprise model governance standards and model risk management procedures.
• Classify AI systems according to risk, criticality, regulatory sensitivity, and potential business impact.
• Define requirements for model validation, performance monitoring, drift detection, explainability, and human-in-the-loop oversight.
• Maintain an enterprise inventory covering AI applications, models, and related governance information.
• Conduct periodic AI risk assessments and track required mitigation measures through completion.
• Monitor emerging global and regional developments in AI, privacy, data protection, and information governance.
• Translate regulatory developments into practical policies, standards, controls, and operational requirements.
• Coordinate responses to regulatory reviews, examinations, audits, and governance information requests.
• Support Internal Audit, Risk, Compliance, and External Audit activities with appropriate evidence and documentation.
• Maintain governance evidence repositories and lead remediation of identified privacy, AI, and data control weaknesses.
• Establish governance requirements for AI vendors, cloud providers, SaaS platforms, and external data processors.
• Review third-party processing agreements, data-sharing arrangements, AI solution providers, and relevant technology contracts.
• Assess external AI platforms, Large Language Models, and foundation model providers for privacy, security, regulatory, and ethical risks.
• Develop enterprise training covering Responsible AI, data governance, privacy, data protection, and appropriate information handling.
• Conduct executive awareness sessions and governance workshops to strengthen accountability for responsible technology use.
• Develop dashboards and KPIs covering AI governance, privacy compliance, data quality, model risk, and governance effectiveness.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor 's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Law, or a related field.
• Master 's Degree is preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in data governance, privacy, information management, enterprise risk, or technology governance.
• At least 5 years of experience leading enterprise governance initiatives.
• Experience gained within insurance, financial services, banking, or another regulated business environment is preferred.
• Practical experience governing AI and machine learning platforms in an enterprise setting.
• Strong understanding of Generative AI, Agentic AI, Large Language Models, advanced analytics, and intelligent automation.
• Experience with enterprise data platforms, cloud environments, analytics ecosystems, and large-scale digital transformation programs.
• Strong knowledge of privacy, data protection, information governance, and regulatory compliance principles.
• Working knowledge of UAE PDPL, DIFC Data Protection Law, GDPR, and related privacy obligations.
• Demonstrated capability in AI risk management, model governance, Responsible AI, and AI lifecycle controls.
• Experience creating enterprise policies, governance standards, operating procedures, control frameworks, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Strong understanding of data ownership, stewardship, classification, lineage, retention, and quality management.
• Experience assessing AI vendors, SaaS solutions, cloud platforms, third-party processors, and external data-sharing arrangements.
