Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a knowledgeable Water Resources Engineer to focus on catchment management and water infrastructure planning in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. You will contribute to sustainable water resource utilization and management strategies while addressing challenges such as water scarcity, quality, and flood risk.

The role requires strong hydrology, hydraulics, and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience in environmental regulations and data analysis.

Qualifications

• MSc or MEng in Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology, or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in water resources management and engineering.
• Proficiency with hydrological and hydraulic modeling software (HEC-RAS, EPANET, SWAT).
• Strong understanding of catchment processes, water quality management and regulations.
• Experience with GIS and data analysis tools.
• Excellent report writing, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement integrated water resource management plans for river catchments.
• Conduct hydrological studies, flood modeling and drought risk assessments.
• Design and assess water infrastructure including dams, canals, and water treatment facilities.
• Analyze water quality data and develop pollution control/remediation strategies.
• Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners and community groups on water initiatives.
• Prepare technical reports, EIA documents and policy recommendations.
