Job summary

Mecad Systems is seeking a WASH Field Engineer to lead technical delivery across a cluster of water sites. The role focuses on quarterly condition assessments, preventive and reactive maintenance, and monitoring of water quality while supporting community operators and local committees.

The incumbent will work between trained operators and specialist contractors, ensuring compliance, documentation, and timely remediations with a strong emphasis on field diagnostics and on-site problem solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or national diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Water Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
• Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Candidate Engineer or Candidate Engineering Technologist (or eligibility to register).
• Minimum three (3) years of hands‑on experience in operation and maintenance of rural water supply systems, including solar-powered pumping systems.

Responsibilities

• Technical condition assessment across assigned cluster, including pumps, panels, batteries and distribution network.
• Perform quarterly full-system inspections and diagnose faults for predictive maintenance.
• Conduct monthly water quality testing and collect bacteriological samples for SANAS laboratories.
• Train community pump operators and support O&M planning with water committees.
