Job summary

Mecad Systems is seeking a WASH Field Engineer to lead quarterly inspections, preventive and reactive maintenance, and water quality monitoring across assigned rural sites in KwaZulu-Natal. You will bridge between community pump operators and contractors, ensuring systems are compliant, documented, and operational.

You are expected to hold an engineering degree, register with ECSA as Candidate Engineer or equivalent, and have 3+ years in rural water systems with solar pumping.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Water Engineering or related field.
• Registration with ECSA as Candidate Engineer or eligibility.
• 3+ years of hands-on rural water system operation and maintenance.
• Experience with solar-powered pumping systems and water quality protocols.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site-by-site technical condition assessments across the cluster.
• Perform quarterly full-system inspections and reactive maintenance.
• Train community pump operators and support O&M planning.
• Manage documentation: reports, asset registers, and compliance.
• Coordinate with contractors and partners for remediation and upgrades.
