Job summary

South Cape Recruitment seeks an experienced Warehouse Supervisor to oversee daily warehouse operations, stock control and dispatch for a high-volume distribution centre servicing multiple branches. You will lead a team, ensure accurate stock handling, and coordinate schedules and deliveries.

The role requires strong leadership, organisational skills and a proactive approach to safety and efficiency within a busy retail-related distribution environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in warehouse management or supervision, with 5+ years preferred.
• Strong warehouse and logistics management in high-volume distribution.
• Retail exposure is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily warehouse operations including receiving, storage, order processing, dispatch and distribution.
• Coordinate stock allocation and deliveries for branch replenishment.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse & Distribution Management

• Oversee daily warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, stock handling, order processing, dispatch and distribution.
• Manage a high-volume warehouse operating as a distribution centre servicing multiple branches.
• Coordinate stock allocation, dispatch schedules and deliveries to ensure efficient branch replenishment.
• Ensure warehouse layout and storage facilities are organised for optimal space utilisation and operational efficiency.
• Implement and maintain warehouse policies, procedures and operational standards.
• Monitor warehouse productivity, service delivery and operational performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.

Stock Control & Inventory Management

• Oversee daily stock counts, regular cycle counts and three annual branch stocktakes.
• Ensure accurate stock records and reconcile physical stock against the inventory management system.
• Monitor stock movements, investigate discrepancies and implement corrective measures.
• Identify and report slow-moving and obsolete stock.
• Maintain effective stock management procedures and ensure inventory accuracy.
• Identify mild steel products, including sheet and plate, and ensure appropriate stock handling and storage.

Staff Management & Leadership

• Supervise, lead and motivate warehouse staff to achieve operational targets.
• Allocate duties, monitor performance and maintain high standards of productivity and accountability.
• Provide hands‑on leadership and ensure warehouse activities are completed accurately and efficiently.
• Foster a strong work ethic and maintain a disciplined, performance‑driven working environment.

Logistics, Fleet & Dispatch

• Oversee receiving and dispatch administration to ensure accurate documentation and efficient processing.
• Check outgoing loads following the night shift to ensure trucks are correctly loaded before departure.
• Monitor vehicle maintenance requirements and coordinate the necessary follow‑ups.
• Ensure dispatch operations run according to schedule and comply with company procedures.
• Maintain effective communication and coordination between the warehouse and the branches it services.

Health & Safety

• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and company procedures.
• Conduct workplace inspections and identify potential hazards and operational risks.
• Investigate workplace incidents and implement appropriate corrective measures.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised warehouse environment.
• Liaise with health and safety representatives and relevant inspectors when required.

Minimum Requirements

• Proven experience in warehouse management or warehouse supervision, with at least 5 years' relevant experience preferred.
• Strong warehouse and logistics management experience, ideally within a high-volume distribution environment.
• Previous retail experience is required.
• Experience or knowledge of the steel and tube or rebar industry would be advantageous.
• Ability to identify mild steel products, particularly sheet and plate.
• Strong understanding of stock control, inventory reconciliation, warehouse policies and procedures.
• Experience managing receiving, dispatch, stock counts and distribution operations.
• Syspro experience would be advantageous.
• Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office.
• Excellent leadership, organisational, planning and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong administrative ability and attention to detail.
• A dynamic, hands‑on individual with an excellent work ethic who can manage pressure, high volumes and competing priorities effectively.
