Job summary

HuntWave Technologies in Cape Town seeks an experienced Warehouse Operations Manager to oversee daily warehouse activities, optimize processes, and lead a diverse team. The role requires strong WMS/ERP skills, inventory control expertise and a track record of improving productivity in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities include managing inbound/outbound logistics, safeguarding safety standards, and coordinating with supply chain teams to meet demand and delivery goals.

Qualifications

  • Five to eight years in warehouse or distribution center ops.
  • Minimum three years in supervisory or management role.
  • Experience in retail, e-commerce or FMCG is advantageous.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations Management
  • Oversee daily warehouse operations including receiving, processing, storage, picking, packing, and dispatch.
  • Ensure efficient workflow across all warehouse functions to meet operational targets and delivery timelines.
  • Develop and implement warehouse procedures and process improvements to enhance productivity and operational accuracy.
  • Manage warehouse space utilization and layout to optimize storage capacity and workflow efficiency.
Inventory Management
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure alignment between physical inventory and system records.
  • Oversee stock receiving, barcode management, and inventory tracking processes.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and stock audits to ensure inventory accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Work closely with merchandising and supply chain teams to ensure timely stock availability and replenishment.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and internal safety protocols.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety within the warehouse environment.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective measures where required.
  • Ensure proper training and adherence to safe equipment operation and warehouse handling procedures.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage a diverse warehouse team including supervisors, pickers, packers, and receiving staff.
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide regular coaching and feedback.
  • Coordinate staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage during peak operational periods.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Logistics & Distribution
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics with suppliers, freight partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure efficient dispatch of goods to retail stores and customers.
  • Monitor and optimize order fulfillment timelines and delivery performance.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and operations teams to forecast demand and plan warehouse capacity.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP systems.
  • Advanced understanding of inventory control and warehouse optimization principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and operational reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with barcode scanning systems and warehouse automation technologies.
Experience
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in warehouse or distribution center operations.
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience within retail, e-commerce, or fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environments is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience managing high-volume inventory and operational teams.
