Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a passionate Volunteer Coordinator & Engagement Specialist to recruit, train, and manage volunteers who support our animal welfare initiatives in Port Elizabeth. You will create a positive experience, keep volunteers motivated, and collaborate with staff to meet program needs.

The role requires strong communication, organizational skills, and a genuine love for animals and community involvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; further education in a related field is a plus.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in volunteer coordination, human resources, or a similar role.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with volunteer management software.
• A passion for animal welfare and a commitment to the organization's mission.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle challenging situations with tact and diplomacy.
• Experience in event planning is beneficial.
• Must be comfortable working in an animal shelter environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies to recruit, screen, and onboard new volunteers.
• Design and deliver engaging volunteer orientation and training programs.
• Coordinate volunteer schedules, assign tasks, and oversee daily activities.
• Serve as the main point of contact for volunteers, addressing questions and needs.
• Foster a positive and supportive volunteer environment, promoting team spirit and engagement.
• Develop and distribute regular volunteer communications.
• Organize volunteer appreciation events and activities.
• Maintain accurate volunteer records and database, tracking hours and contributions.
• Collaborate with staff to identify volunteer needs across different departments and programs.
• Assist in the development of volunteer policies and procedures.
