Job summary

Lexdan Select is assisting an Alternative Energy Company with their search for an Application Engineer based in Cape Town. You will provide technical expertise on PV and BESS systems, develop designs, and prepare proposals for utility-scale projects.

Ideal candidates have 3–5+ years in PV/BESS engineering, familiarity with SMA inverters and Sunny Island X, and strong modelling skills in PVSyst, MATLAB or HOMER. You will support sales, site visits and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Energy Systems or related field.
• 3-5+ years' experience in utility-scale PV or BESS engineering, design or project support.
• Experience in system design, sizing, modelling and hybrid PV/BESS integration.
• Knowledge of SMA inverters, Sunny Island X solutions and third-party battery technologies.
• Proficiency in modelling and simulation tools such as PVSyst, MATLAB or HOMER.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise on PV and BESS systems, including inverters and battery technologies.
• Analyse customer requirements and develop utility-scale PV/BESS designs and solutions.
• Prepare technical proposals, tenders, quotations and sales documentation.
• Support sales and project teams with technical guidance, customer queries and site visits.
• Develop system models and simulations using PVSyst, MATLAB and HOMER.
• Ensure designs comply with regional requirements, grid codes and regulatory frameworks.
• Assess competitor solutions and contribute to technical marketing materials.
• Support integration of BESS into existing PV plants and liaise with grid operators.
