About the Role

Our client, a progressive urban development firm in Paarl, Western Cape , is seeking a visionary Urban Planner to join their dedicated team. This role is central to shaping the future growth and sustainability of urban areas. The Urban Planner will be responsible for developing comprehensive plans, policies, and strategies that guide land use, infrastructure development, and community engagement. We are looking for an individual with a deep understanding of urban design principles, environmental sustainability, and socio-economic factors influencing city development. The successful candidate will play a key role in stakeholder consultations, policy formulation, and project implementation, fostering vibrant and livable communities. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement land use plans, zoning regulations, and development strategies.
• Conduct research and analysis on urban trends, demographic changes, and environmental issues.
• Prepare master plans, precinct plans, and detailed development proposals.
• Facilitate public consultations and stakeholder engagement processes.
• Liaise with government agencies, developers, and community groups on planning matters.
• Assess development applications for compliance with planning policies and regulations.
• Contribute to the development of sustainable infrastructure and green initiatives.
• Prepare planning reports, presentations, and policy recommendations.
• Advocate for sound urban planning principles and best practices.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, or a related field.
• Professional affiliation with the South African Planning Institute (SAPI) is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in urban planning, policy development, or development management.
• Strong knowledge of South African planning legislation and processes (e.g., SPLUMA).
• Proficiency in GIS software and other relevant planning tools.
• Excellent research, analytical, and report-writing skills.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and facilitation abilities.
• Ability to manage projects and work effectively within a team environment.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Paarl, Western Cape .
