About the Role

Our client, a dynamic urban development consultancy, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Urban Planner to guide strategic planning initiatives in Pretoria, Gauteng . This senior position involves shaping the future of urban environments through innovative land-use planning, policy development, and stakeholder engagement. You will lead a team of planners, manage complex planning projects, and work closely with municipal authorities, developers, and community groups. The ideal candidate possesses a comprehensive understanding of urban planning principles, legislation, and best practices, with a proven ability to translate visions into actionable plans for the Gauteng region. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of strategic urban plans and policies.
• Manage complex planning projects, including land-use applications, rezoning, and development frameworks.
• Oversee and mentor a team of urban planning professionals.
• Conduct spatial analysis, research, and feasibility studies for development proposals.
• Facilitate and coordinate stakeholder engagement processes with communities, government agencies, and private sector clients.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant planning legislation, policies, and environmental regulations.

Requirements

• Professional registration with the South African Planning Institute (SAPI) or equivalent is essential.
• Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, or a related field.
• A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in urban planning, with a significant portion in a leadership capacity.
• Proven experience managing complex planning projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• In-depth knowledge of South African planning legislation (e.g., SPLUMA) and land use management systems.
• Proficiency in GIS software and other relevant planning tools.
