Qualifications

• Master's degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in urban design, urban planning, or a closely related field with a strong portfolio.
• Demonstrated expertise in strategic urban planning, master planning, and urban regeneration.
• In-depth knowledge of urban design principles, spatial analysis, and regulatory frameworks.

Responsabilités

• Lead the development of urban design frameworks, master plans, and design guidelines for significant urban regeneration and development projects.
• Conduct urban analysis, spatial diagnostics, and feasibility studies to inform strategic planning.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement workshops and public participation processes.
• Collaborate with government agencies, private developers, and community groups to align urban development goals.
• Develop visualisations, renderings, and illustrative graphics to communicate design concepts and strategies effectively.
• Ensure that urban design strategies promote sustainability, inclusivity, economic vitality, and resilience.
• Advise on planning policy and regulations, and advocate for best practices in urban design.
• Manage project teams and deliverables, ensuring high-quality outputs within project timelines.

About the Role

Our client, a leading urban planning and architectural consultancy based in the prestigious Sandton, Gauteng, is seeking a visionary Urban Design Strategist to lead critical planning and design initiatives. This role involves shaping the future urban landscape by developing innovative strategies, master plans, and design guidelines for complex, large-scale developments. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of urban planners, architects, engineers, and policy experts to create sustainable, resilient, and vibrant urban environments. Based in our Sandton office, you will play a key role in influencing urban development policy and design excellence within Gauteng and nationally. Requirements

• A Master's degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture, or a related field.

• Demonstrated expertise in strategic urban planning, master planning, and urban regeneration.
• In-depth knowledge of urban design principles, spatial analysis, and regulatory frameworks.
• Proficiency in relevant software, including GIS, CAD (AutoCAD), BIM (Revit), and visualization tools (e.g., SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
• Proven leadership capabilities and experience in managing complex projects and teams.
• Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., South African Planning Institute) is highly desirable.
