Network Recruitment is seeking a Personal Lines Underwriter in Johannesburg to deliver exceptional client service while applying sound underwriting practices across a personal lines portfolio.

You will underwrite new business, renewals, endorsements, and quotations, while maintaining accurate records and supporting the sales team to grow profitable business. This role demands strong analytical skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Matric and NQF 5 in Short-Term Insurance are required.
• RE Certification is required.
• Personal Lines Class of Business certification is required.
• DOFA confirmation from the FSB is required.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite personal lines insurance policies, including new business, renewals, endorsements, and policy amendments.
• Prepare and review quotations for prospective and existing clients.
• Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company policies and guidelines.
• Support the sales team in acquiring and retaining profitable business.
• Process policy documentation accurately and maintain records electronically.
• Negotiate renewal terms and prepare renewal documentation.
• Conduct renewal reviews and retention calculations within timelines.
• Arrange and monitor surveys where applicable.
• Address policy queries, amendments, and additional cover requests.
• Ensure policies are accurately rated and not overexposed to risk.
• Resolve customer queries and complaints to ensure excellent service.
• Contribute to process improvements and operational excellence.

Job description

This role is ideal for a professional who is passionate about delivering exceptional client service while maintaining sound underwriting practices across a personal lines portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting new business, renewals, endorsements, quotations, and related administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite personal lines insurance policies, including new business, renewals, endorsements, and policy amendments.
• Prepare and review quotations for prospective and existing clients.
• Ensure all underwriting activities are conducted in accordance with company policies, procedures, and underwriting guidelines.
• Support the sales team in acquiring and retaining profitable business.
• Process policy documentation accurately and ensure all records are maintained electronically.
• Negotiate renewal terms and prepare renewal documentation.
• Conduct renewal reviews and retention calculations within agreed timelines.
• Arrange and monitor surveys and survey requirements where applicable.
• Address policy queries, amendments, and additional cover requests from clients.
• Ensure policies are appropriately rated and not overexposed to risk.
• Resolve customer queries and complaints effectively to ensure excellent service delivery.
• Contribute to process improvements and support continuous operational excellence.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric. NQF Level 5 Qualification in Short-Term Insurance.
• Regulatory Examination (RE) Certification.
• Personal Lines Class of Business certification.
• DOFA confirmation from the FSB.
• Minimum 4 years' Personal Lines underwriting experience.
• Strong understanding of personal insurance products and underwriting principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with Cardinal 360 (C360) will be advantageous.
