Job summary

SA Metal Group (Pty) Ltd is seeking a motivated Transport Controller to organize logistics within the Transport Department. You will report to the Transport Manager and oversee day-to-day transport service requirements, dispatch drivers, and maintain safety and vehicle standards.

The role requires 3–5 years’ fleet experience, Grade 12 or equivalent, and strong leadership and communication skills. Code 14 license and PrDP are advantageous. Gauteng-based with regional knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage day to day transport service requirements.
• Dispatching / Debriefing drivers.
• Daily tracking reports and updates.
• First point of contact for Drivers.
• Ensure highest possible customer service levels.
• Ensure fleet is roadworthy and conforms to policy.
• Oversee truck drivers and adherence to procedures.
• Liaise with management on driver-related issues.
• Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
• Capture incident reports and distribute to stakeholders.
• Report faults and breakdowns on trucks.
• Complete accessories forms and issue paperwork.
• Conduct monthly cell and accessories audits and reports.
• Submit daily check sheets to the administrators.
• Book appointments for drivers for medicals and HR meetings.
• Order and issue PPE for drivers.
• Conduct truck and equipment audits.

Job description

The SA Metal Group has an opportunity for a highly motivated, professional and organized Transport Controller to join the Transport Department. The successful candidate will assist with organizing the logistics of the group to ensure smooth operation and that the requirements of the company are met. The successful candidate will report to the Transport Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Manage day to day transport service requirements.
• Dispatching / Debriefing drivers.
• Daily tracking reports and updates.
• First point of contact for Drivers.
• Ensure highest possible customer service levels.
• Ensure that the fleet is in a roadworthy condition and conforms to company policy in terms of branding and cleanliness.
• Oversee truck drivers, ensure and guide adherence to procedures.
• Liaise with management in respect of any Driver related issues that arise.
• Ensure Occupational Health and Safety requirements are adhered to.
• Capture incident reports and distribute them timeously to all the stake holders.
• Capture and report faults and breakdowns on trucks timeously.
• Completion of accessories (Cell phones and Tag) forms and issue paperwork
• Conducting monthly Cell and accessories audits and reports.
• Submit daily check sheets to the administrators.
• Booking of appointments for Drivers for medicals and HR meetings.
• Ordering and issuing PPE for existing drivers.
• Conducting truck and equipment audits.

QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Minimum 3 - 5 years’ fleet Controlling experience.
• Transport Management or similar qualification will be an added advantage
• Proven Leadership ability – must be able to lead by example.
• Code 14 driver’s license and (PrDP) will be an advantage
• Computer Literacy (MS Word, MS Excel and Microsoft Office)
• Proven knowledge in working with fleet tracking systems.
• Transport Management qualification advantageous.
• Geographical knowledge of Gauteng and surrounding areas.
• Ability to speak in multiple African languages is advantageous.
