The Opportunity

An established skills-development and accredited training organisation is looking for a Training Content Creator / Learning Materials Developer to join its Johannesburg team.

This is a specialist content-development role focused on the creation, improvement and maintenance of training and learning materials. It is not primarily a marketing, copywriting or social-media content role.

The successful candidate will be able to take technical information, subject matter and learning outcomes and transform them into clear, structured, engaging and professional learning content for facilitators and learners.

You will develop materials including learner guides, training manuals, facilitator guides, workbooks, assessments, tests, presentations, activities and other educational resources.

The ideal candidate combines excellent writing and editing ability with experience or knowledge of adult learning, instructional design, learning and development, education or accredited training environments.

  • Develop, write and edit high-quality training and learning materials.
  • Create learner guides, training manuals, workbooks and facilitator guides.

  • Ensure content is clear, logical, accurate and appropriate for the intended learner.
  • Develop content supporting both theoretical and practical learning.
  • Review and update existing training materials to ensure continued relevance and accuracy.
Assessment & Testing Materials
  • Develop learner assessments, tests, quizzes and knowledge checks.
  • Create questions that accurately assess course or module learning outcomes.
  • Develop practical activities, exercises, case studies and workplace scenarios.
  • Review assessment material for clarity, accuracy and alignment with learning outcomes.
  • Maintain consistency between learner materials, assessments and facilitator resources.
Instructional Design
  • Apply instructional-design principles when developing learning content.
  • Structure courses into logical modules, topics and learning outcomes.
  • Adapt content for different learner levels and learning requirements.
  • Develop activities that encourage understanding rather than simple memorisation.
  • Incorporate practical examples, scenarios and case studies where appropriate.
  • Work with subject-matter experts and facilitators to ensure technical accuracy.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Proofread and quality-check training material before publication.
  • Ensure consistency in terminology, formatting, grammar and instructional approach.
  • Check that learning materials align with relevant course outcomes and requirements.
  • Maintain version control and accurate records of updated materials.
  • Assist with documentation required within an accredited training environment.
  • Develop content with relevant training and accreditation requirements in mind.
Content Research
  • Research relevant topics to ensure training content is accurate and current.
  • Review legislation, industry information, policies, procedures and source material where applicable.
  • Identify gaps or outdated information in existing training material.
  • Translate complex or technical information into accessible, learner-friendly content.
  • Work closely with facilitators, training managers, subject-matter experts and internal teams.
  • Gather information from stakeholders and transform it into usable training content.
