Job summary

Apex Group in Cape Town is seeking a Trainee Fund Accountant to assist in the preparation of accurate portfolio valuations and the accounting of multiple funds. You will maintain accounting records and support the production of financial statements.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Commerce (including Financial Accounting II or equivalent).
• 6 months - 1 year of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of hedge funds is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily, weekly and/or monthly portfolio valuations.
• Maintain the underlying accounting records for assigned funds.
• Liaise with fund managers, brokers, and custodians to resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Reconcile brokerage and custodian accounts to underlying records.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering high-quality service.
• Assist external auditors and support the audit process.
• Support senior team members with audit queries.
• Conduct periodic reviews and identify errors or inconsistencies.
