Job summary

Apex Group Ltd (UK Branch) seeks a Trainee Fund Accountant in Cape Town to support portfolio valuations and fund accounting across multiple portfolios. You will maintain accounting records, liaise with managers and custodians, and help ensure timely financial statements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly portfolio valuations.
• Maintain underlying accounting records for funds.
• Liaise with fund managers, brokers, and custodians to resolve issues.
• Reconcile brokerage and custodian accounts to records.
• Build strong client relationships and deliver high-quality service.
• Assist external auditors and support audit queries.
• Support senior team members with audits and reviews.
• Identify errors or inconsistencies during periodic reviews.

Description

The Trainee Fund Accountant role involves the preparation of accurate portfolio valuations on a timely basis. The role holder is responsible for the accounting of multiple portfolios, maintaining underlying accounting records, and assisting in the production of financial statements.

Job specification

• Prepare daily, weekly and/or monthly portfolio valuations.
• Maintain the underlying accounting records for assigned funds.
• Liaise with fund managers, brokers, and custodians to resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Reconcile brokerage and custodian accounts to underlying records.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering high-quality service.
• Assist external auditors and support the audit process.
• Support senior team members with audit queries.
• Conduct periodic reviews and identify errors or inconsistencies.

• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Strong attention to detail and structured approach to work.

• Degree or diploma in Commerce (including Financial Accounting II or equivalent).
• At least 6 months -1 years of relevant experience.

• Knowledge of hedge funds is advantageous.
