Job summary

The Apex Group in Cape Town seeks a Trainee Fund Accountant to support the preparation of accurate portfolio valuations and the accounting of multiple funds. You will liaise with fund managers, brokers, and custodians, maintaining records and assisting in statutory financial statements.

You will work under supervision, develop technical accounting skills, and contribute to audit support while building strong client relationships and ensuring timely deliverables.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Commerce (including Financial Accounting II or equivalent).
• At least 6 months-1 year of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of hedge funds is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily, weekly and/or monthly portfolio valuations.
• Maintain the underlying accounting records for assigned funds.
• Liaise with fund managers, brokers, and custodians to resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Reconcile brokerage and custodian accounts to underlying records.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships while delivering high-quality service.
• Assist external auditors and support the audit process.
• Support senior team members with audit queries.
• Conduct periodic reviews and identify errors or inconsistencies.

Description

The Trainee Fund Accountant role involves the preparation of accurate portfolio valuations on a timely basis. The role holder is responsible for the accounting of multiple portfolios, maintaining underlying accounting records, and assisting in the production of financial statements.
