Job summary

soughtout in Durban is seeking a skilled tool maker to join our client's dynamic team. You will manufacture, repair, maintain and modify tooling, dies, jigs and related production equipment, using engineering drawings and manufacturing instructions.

You will operate conventional and CNC machines, apply Fusion 360 CAD/CAM design, inspect tooling to tight tolerances, and collaborate with engineering to improve processes. A hands-on, detail-oriented mindset and commitment to quality are essential.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
• Qualified Tool Maker, Fitter & Turner, or equivalent trade qualification.
• Minimum 3–5 years' experience in tool making, machining, or manufacturing.
• Experience manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining tooling, jigs, fixtures, and machine components.
• Experience operating conventional machining equipment; CNC experience is a plus.
• Fusion 360 or CAD/CAM software experience is beneficial.
• Experience in engineering plastics, rubber, polyurethane, or general manufacturing is advantageous.
• Strong machining and fabrication skills; ability to read engineering drawings and specs.
• Competent in precision measuring instruments and quality inspection techniques.
• Focus on accuracy, detail, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture, repair, maintain, and modify tooling and related production equipment.
• Interpret and work from technical drawings and manufacturing instructions.
• Operate conventional machining equipment (lathes, mills, grinders, drills).
• Operate CNC machinery and programming software where applicable.
• Utilise Fusion 360 or similar CAD/CAM software for tooling design and modifications.
• Inspect tooling to ensure quality and tolerances.
• Troubleshoot tooling and production issues to minimise downtime.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to optimise tooling performance.
• Maintain records of tooling maintenance, repairs and modifications.
