Job summary

Staff Solutions in South Africa is seeking an experienced Toolmaker to join our tooling team. You will perform routine servicing, regrinding, and repairs of tools and dies, attending breakdowns and solving faults to keep production running smoothly.

You will plan repairs, report root causes, participate in FMEA, and support new tooling trials. The role emphasizes safety, cost awareness, and continuous improvement while leading and training technicians in the group.

Qualifications

• Trade-tested toolmakers with experience in new projects and tool maintenance/repair.
• Experience in manufacturing environments and ability to meet tight production targets.
• Understanding of 5S, continuous improvement, and basic cost concepts.
• Experience in project management or working in project teams, with ability to deliver on deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Routine servicing and regrinding of tools and die repairs.
• Attend breakdowns and diagnose faults to minimize downtime.
• Plan repair work and report root causes to management.
• Lead and train technicians or trainees in the group.
• Support tooling buyoffs and trials for new tooling.
• Ensure adherence to Quality Management system and document changes.
• Test tools (electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic) before return to production.
• Manage budget/cost measures for tooling and promote safe working environment.
