Job summary

Centrax Group is seeking an experienced QA/Test Engineer to plan, design and execute testing across finance systems, including SIT and UAT support. The role ensures data integrity and regulatory compliance through rigorous functional and integration testing.

The candidate will validate financial calculations, run API tests, and contribute to automated regression suites while maintaining traceability to requirements and test artefacts.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Finance or a related field.
• ISTQB Foundation certification (ISTQB Advanced or equivalent is advantageous).
• 5+ years in software testing or quality assurance, with 3+ years testing finance systems in insurance or financial services.

Job description

ROLE PURPOSE

To plan, design and execute testing across finance and actuarial systems, providing the quality assurance that underpins confident go-live decisions. The role owns test coverage from functional and integration testing through to System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) support, ensuring that delivered solutions meet documented requirements, protect financial data integrity and satisfy audit and regulatory expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Test Planning & Strategy
• Contribute to test strategy and produce test plans, estimates and entry/exit criteria for assigned workstreams.
• Apply risk-based testing to prioritise coverage against business criticality and regulatory impact.
• Define test data requirements and work with data teams to provision compliant, representative test data.
• Test Design & Execution
• Analyse requirements, user stories and functional specifications to design test scenarios, cases and scripts with full traceability to requirements.
• Execute functional, regression, integration, end-to-end and negative testing across finance platforms and interfaces.
• Validate financial calculations, postings, reconciliations and reporting output against expected results.
• Perform data validation and back-end verification using SQL, and test interfaces using API testing tools.
• Support performance, security and non-functional test execution where required.
• Automation & Tooling
• Identify automation candidates and build, maintain and execute automated regression suites.
• Maintain test artefacts in test management tooling and keep traceability matrices current.
• Support performance, security and non-functional test execution where required.
• Defect Management & Reporting
• Log, triage, retest and close defects, driving them to resolution with development and vendor teams.
• Produce clear test progress, coverage and quality reports for project and steering forums.
• Provide an evidence-based quality assessment to support go/no-go decisions.
• UAT & Business Readiness
• Support and coordinate UAT and SIT cycles, including business user onboarding, scenario walkthroughs and daily defect triage.
• Provide guidance and training to business testers on tooling, process and evidence capture.
• Contribute to post-implementation verification and hypercare support.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

• 5+ years in software testing or quality assurance, with 3+ years testing finance systems in insurance or financial services.
• Strong understanding of finance business processes, accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Proven experience designing and executing test cases for ERP finance implementations and system integrations.
• Hands-on data validation using SQL, including reconciliation of source-to-target data.
• Experience testing integrations via APIs and message-based interfaces using tools such as Postman, SoapUI or REST Assured.
• Test automation experience with Selenium, Playwright, Tosca, Cypress or a comparable framework.
• Proficiency in test management and defect tracking tools -- Jira with Xray or Zephyr, Azure DevOps or Micro Focus ALM.
• Experience leading or supporting UAT and SIT with business stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills, with high attention to detail.
• Proficiency in MS Office and both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.

QUALIFICATIONS

DESIRABLE

• Exposure to actuarial systems, IFRS 17 reporting or regulatory reporting testing.
• Knowledge of South African financial and insurance regulations.
• Performance testing experience with JMeter, LoadRunner or equivalent.
• Experience mentoring junior testers or coordinating a small test team.
