Job summary

Sibanye-Stillwater in Rustenburg, North West Province, seeks a Strata Control Specialist to support production and minimise mining-related disruptions. The role requires adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards while coordinating with stakeholders.

Key duties include implementing proactive strata control, reporting to management, and maintaining policies. The ideal candidate has NQF4 with Maths & Science, COM Strata Control, 5+ years' experience, and a valid driver's license;

Qualifications

  • Requires NQF 4 with Maths and Science.
  • Must hold COM Strata Control Certificate.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a related role.
  • Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
  • Clear security screening record.
  • Valid driver’s license if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Strata Control
  • Ensures that safe quality of work is achieved daily by developing and implementing a proactive approach to all safety Strata Control issues in the workplace which requires the effective co-ordination and supervision of the support functions.
  • Presents information to management in the form of reports
  • Provides advice based on specialist knowledge information received,
  • Scrutinize submitted data from the workplace and providing feedback.
  • Attends and participates in meetings by providing required information.
  • Keeps abreast of latest relevant Strata Control developments, innovations and technologies.
  • Assists with the maintenance and updates of relevant policies, procedures and regulations in line with current trends and developments and based on own specialist knowledge.
  • Performs any other activities necessary for the effective completion of his / her work. Stakeholder Relations
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally.
  • Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaising with the necessary entities on any environmental management related requirements and alignment where applicable.
  • Financial Management
  • Ensures that costs are controlled and wastage of resources is eliminated by working within prescribed budgets. Reports deviations to Supervisor. Building a values-based organisational culture
  • Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organisational development plan. This support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment.

  • Align to international responsible mining principles.
  • SA Gold Operations: Align to World Gold Council (WGC) Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs).
  • SA PGM Operations: Enhance Together for Sustainability (eTfS) initiative.
  • US PGM Operations: Enhance together for ICCM principles.
  • SHE Compliance
  • Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment.
  • Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks.
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • SHE Management:
  • Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the section.
  • Participate in regional/local bodies and decision-making forums in the process developing a business relevant external environment, that will result in the longer-term sustainability of the Division.

  • Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System.
  • Focus on safe production & operational excellence
  • Focus on safety and health as well as operational excellence
  • Improve our position on global industry cost curve
  • People Management
  • Provide coaching and on-the-job training to reporting staff.
