Job summary

Sibanye Stillwater is seeking a mining environmental professional with ISO14001 expertise to lead environmental management across operations. The role requires practical auditing, reporting and data analysis to drive compliance and improvements.

Responsibilities include monthly reporting, site audits, stakeholder engagement, and implementing ISO 14001:2015 and Cyanide Code in the area of responsibility. A 3+ year track record in mining enviro management is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent NQF7 in Natural Science or Environmental Management.
• At least 3 years in operational mining environmental management.
• General environmental and ISO14001 auditing skills.

Responsibilities

• Compile monthly environmental reports.
• Conduct site visits, audits and inspections underground shafts and surface infrastructure.
• Report environmental performance for ESG and annual reports.
• Manage environmental risks affecting the organisation’s reputation.
• Conduct compliance inspections with government departments.
• Maintain compliance with existing authorisations.
• Prepare environmental legislative reports and recommendations on activities.
• Attend meetings with management to address environmental issues.
• Manage monitoring data (water, air, waste) and trends.
• Handle environmental occurrences (identification, root-cause analysis, corrective plans).
• Develop and implement ISO 14001:2015 system and ICMI (Cyanide Code).

Minimum Qualifications

• Have general environmental and ISO14001 auditing skills.
• Have proven Computer skills in MS Office, Geographic Information Systems, Syncromine, PIVOT and QlikView.
• Have at least 3 years’ experience in an operational mining environmental management environment.
• Be in possession of bachelor’s degree or equivalent NQF 7 qualification in Natural Science or Environmental Management

Requirements

• Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the relevant Sibanye Stillwater Occupational Health Centre.
• Have a Clear security screening record.
• Be in possession of a driver’s license.
• Understand the Health, Safety, and Environmental & Quality principles in and around the workplace (PPE requirements, housekeeping standards.
• Have Stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Demonstrate Science-based and Project management skills.
• Have underground working experiences.
• Have general environmental and ISO14001 auditing skills.
• Understand the relevant current Mine Health, Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
• Be competent in data analysis and interpretation of all environmental monitoring data, with trending thereof to ensure pro-active management of potential impacts.

Key Responsibilities

• Compiling monthly environmental reports.
• Conducting site visits, audits and inspections underground shafts and surface infrastructure of operations.
• Comprehensive reporting of environmental performance data for input into the Quarterly ESG Board report and the Annual Report.
• Managing of environmental risks which could have a negative impact on the reputation of the organisation.
• Conducting compliance site inspections with various government departments.
• Maintaining compliance with existing authorizations.
• Compile environmental legislative reports and providing recommendations on proposed activities, whether they require new environmental authorisation or amendment of, an existing permit or license.
• Attending key meetings with management of various departments to address and pick up on environmental issues.
• Managing environmental monitoring data (water quality, air quality, waste data) and resolving deviations.
• Managing environmental occurrences (identification, reporting, root-cause analysis and managing plans using scientific methodology on incidents, non-conformances, and complaints).
• Monitoring environmental performance (water quality, noise, dust, waste) trends over time and providing input into remedial actions where required.
