Job summary

Kalagadi Manganese Pty seeks an Environmental Officer to monitor legal compliance on site, audit licence conditions, and develop systems to mitigate environmental risks. You will coach managers on environmental standards and ensure timely regulatory reporting.

Required are 3–5 years in environmental management, mining sector experience, and knowledge of ISO 9001/14001/45001. The role is on-site at Hotazel, Northern Cape, South Africa, with a focus on risk prevention and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years environmental management experience, preferably in mining.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, mine standards and procedures.
• Experience with audits, incident investigations and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in ensuring compliance of regulations pertaining to environmental management.
• Support in the identification, analysing and evaluation of environmental risk to contractor and line managers and provide recommendations thereof regarding licence condition requirements.
• Monitor Permits Conditions, Reporting conditions and other Requirements and ensure procedures and system are in place to address conditions and requirements.
• Arrange and review 3rd party compliance Audits and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure mitigation of Environmental risk, through coaching and developing standards.
• Assist in the development and management of environmental systems.
• Conduct environmental awareness to keep employees informed about hazards.
• Ensure all reporting / submissions are done to regulatory bodies.
• Conduct routine environmental inspections to monitor compliance on site.
• Review and ensure that contractors HSE files remains up to date.
• Conduct environmental incident investigations.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

• National Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent


• Diploma; BTech or Degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, or a related field.

Experience

• Minimum of 3 - 5 years environmental management experience, with at least 2 years in the mining sector


• Integrated Risk Management: Proactively identifies people, process, mining environment and system factors that have the potential to create risk and harm.


• Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, mine standards and procedures(Auditors/ISO45001/ISO 14001/9001)


• Investigation, base line assessments and risk management (Impact & Aspect Registers)


• Maintaining Environmental Management systems


• Assurance: Applies audit processes and activities to analyse data in order to identify and upscale risks.


• Performance reporting: Ensures effective monitoring of performance data within own area and applies data analysis to identify opportunities for improvement


• Mining and Process Operations: Understands key operational processes and the impact of S/H/E practices on mining production.
