Placements24 is seeking a Senior Subsurface Geologist for a fully remote role, based in Centurion while enabling remote collaboration. The position focuses on integrating seismic, well log and core data to build robust subsurface models and guide prospect generation.

The candidate will lead data-driven interpretation, risk assessment and regional basin analyses, interacting with multidisciplinary teams to drive exploration success in the energy sector.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences required.
• Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) strongly preferred.
• Minimum 7 years in exploration geology within Oil & Gas.

Responsibilities

• Integrate geological, geophysical and petrophysical data to identify and evaluate hydrocarbon reservoirs.
• Develop and refine 3D subsurface geological models.
• Conduct seismic interpretation, fault and horizon mapping, and attribute analysis.

About the Role

Our client, a forward-thinking energy company operating in the Oil & Gas sector, is looking for a talented and proactive Subsurface Geologist to join their exploration team based in Centurion, Gauteng . This role is central to identifying and evaluating new hydrocarbon prospects. You will be responsible for integrating diverse geological datasets, including seismic, well logs, and core data, to build robust subsurface models. The successful candidate will play a key role in prospect generation, risk assessment, and contributing to the company's exploration strategy. Key Responsibilities

• Integrate and interpret geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data to identify and evaluate potential hydrocarbon reservoirs.
• Develop and refine subsurface geological models, including 3D static models.
• Conduct seismic data interpretation, fault and horizon mapping, and attribute analysis.
• Analyze well logs, core data, and biostratigraphic information to understand reservoir properties and depositional environments.
• Perform prospect risking and volumetric assessments using industry-standard methodologies.
• Contribute to the planning and execution of geological field work and data acquisition programs.
• Collaborate closely with reservoir engineers, geophysicists, and other exploration team members.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, maps, and presentations for exploration reviews.
• Stay current with the latest exploration technologies, methodologies, and geological concepts.
• Contribute to regional and basin analysis for new venture identification.
• Participate in peer reviews and provide geological input for drilling proposals.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
• An advanced degree (MSc or PhD) is strongly preferred.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in exploration geology, specifically within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Proven expertise in seismic interpretation (2D/3D) and sequence stratigraphy.
• Proficiency with geological modeling software (e.g., Petrel, GeoGraphix) and GIS tools.
• Strong understanding of depositional systems, sedimentology, and structural geology.
• Experience with log analysis and core description is essential.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex datasets.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently in a remote setting.
• Familiarity with exploration challenges and opportunities relevant to the Centurion, Gauteng region or similar geological settings is a plus.
• Passion for discovery and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
