Placements24 seeks a Substation Technician to support the operation, maintenance and repair of critical power infrastructure in Randburg. The role focuses on ensuring reliability and safety in high‑voltage environments and requires hands‑on expertise with substations.

You will perform inspections, diagnose faults, install and test components, and maintain thorough records while adhering to strict safety protocols and after‑hours call‑outs as needed.

Qualifications

• 4+ years hands-on experience as a Substation Technician or similar in electricity utility sector.
• Strong knowledge of high‑voltage equipment operation, maintenance, and testing principles.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment used in substation maintenance.
• Understanding of protection schemes and control systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of substation equipment (transformers, circuit breakers, relays, switchgear).
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults with minimal power disruption.
• Install, commission, and modify substation components and protection/control systems.
• Interpret schematics and manuals to execute tasks accurately.
• Adhere to safety procedures including lockout/tagout, heights, and confined spaces.
