Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dedicated team in Richards Bay. You will provide evidence-based counseling, guide clients through recovery, and work within a framework of confidentiality and personalized care plans.

You will assess needs, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive client care in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field.
• Certification/licensure in substance abuse counseling (e.g., Certified Addiction Counselor).
• Minimum of five years' direct addiction counseling experience.
• In-depth knowledge of addiction treatment modalities, recovery principles, and co-occurring disorders.
• Strong counseling, motivational interviewing, and group facilitation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments to diagnose and identify client needs.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and recovery strategies.
• Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction, coping and life skills.
• Provide crisis intervention and support for acute withdrawal or distress.
• Educate clients and families about addiction and recovery processes.
• Maintain accurate, confidential client records in line with ethical/legal standards.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and community resources for comprehensive care.
