Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Substance Abuse Counsellor to provide essential support within the Polokwane community. You will conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and deliver individual and group counselling to help clients achieve long-term sobriety.

You will educate clients on coping strategies, monitor progress, and coordinate with families and health professionals to ensure a comprehensive recovery plan in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or related field.
  • Registered as a counsellor or psychologist with the SA professional board.
  • Proven experience in counselling individuals with substance use disorders.
  • In-depth knowledge of addiction treatment modalities including CBT, motivational interviewing and group therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessments and create individualized treatment plans for clients with substance use disorders.
  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions using evidence-based approaches.
  • Educate clients on addiction, relapse prevention strategies, and coping skills.
  • Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans; document sessions.
  • Collaborate with families, healthcare professionals and community groups for a full recovery network.
  • Facilitate referrals to detox, medical care and housing support.
