Placements24 is seeking a skilled Structural Steel Detailer in Klerksdorp to translate architectural and engineering designs into precise fabrication drawings and erection plans. You will work with engineers and fabricators to ensure accuracy and constructability on diverse industrial projects across the North West region.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in structural detailing, strong knowledge of steel construction methods, and proficiency in Tekla Structures or Advance Steel.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a leading specialist in industrial steel fabrication and erection, is seeking a highly skilled Structural Steel Detailer to join their expanding design and engineering team in Klerksdorp . This role is central to translating architectural and engineering designs into precise fabrication drawings and erection plans for complex industrial structures. The ideal candidate will be proficient in industry-standard detailing software and possess a deep understanding of steel construction methods, connections, and relevant building codes. You will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure accuracy, constructability, and adherence to project timelines. This is a crucial position within our client's operations, contributing directly to the successful execution of industrial projects across North West province and beyond. Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed shop drawings, erection plans, and connection details for structural steel projects using advanced CAD software.
• Interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations accurately.
• Liaise with structural engineers to resolve design queries and ensure constructability.
• Generate Bills of Materials (BOM) and material take-offs for procurement and fabrication.
• Ensure all detailing complies with relevant building codes, industry standards (e.g., AISC, SANS), and project-specific requirements.
• Coordinate with fabrication shop personnel and site erection teams to address any detailing-related issues.
• Maintain meticulous records of all design revisions and project documentation.
• Participate in design review meetings and contribute to value engineering efforts.
• Quality check all drawings and data before release to fabrication or construction.
• Stay updated with the latest detailing software and steel construction technologies.

Requirements

• A National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Structural Steel Detailer, with a strong portfolio of industrial projects.
• Proficiency in structural steel detailing software such as Tekla Structures, Advance Steel, or similar.
• Solid understanding of structural steel design principles, connections, fabrication processes, and erection procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering and architectural drawings.
• Knowledge of South African building codes and steel construction standards.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all work produced.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Experience with projects in Klerksdorp or the broader North West region is an advantage.
