Job summary

BVi Consulting Engineers Western Cape (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Structural Engineer for renewable energy projects in our Cape Town office. The role is permanent and requires strong civil/structural design capabilities with experience in wind farm and PV projects, plus ECSA registration eligibility.

Responsibilities include detailed design, documentation, site inspections, and liaising with stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery across wind and solar facilities.

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering is required.
• Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
• 4 years+ post-graduate engineering experience preferred.
• Sound knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles and construction practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the detailed design and design implementation of civil infrastructure on renewable projects with a key focus on reinforced concrete and structural steel.
• Authoring and detailed review of structural design documentation such as design calculation sheets, reports and drawings.
• Provide structural engineering input across renewable energy projects, from design through to construction and completion.
• Assist with the preparation and review of technical reports, specifications, drawings and project documentation.
• Monitor progress and provide input into project reporting and construction meetings.
• Conduct site inspections and identify, investigate and resolve technical and construction-related issues.
• Liaise with contractors, clients, consultants and other project stakeholders to facilitate effective project delivery.
• Review contractor submissions, method statements, drawings, technical information and other project documentation.
• Assist with quality control and ensure that construction works meet the required engineering and project standards.
• Provide technical guidance and engineering solutions to site-related challenges.
• Identify potential risks, deviations and delays and assist in developing appropriate corrective actions.
• Ensure that engineering work is undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation, standards, BVi procedures and client requirements.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and contribute to the successful delivery of projects.
• Support senior engineers and project managers as required and take increasing responsibility for project and technical deliverables.

Project Experience:

Experience in the following areas will be advantageous:

• 1 - 2 years practical site experience within the renewable energy sector
• Wind farm developments and associated infrastructure.
• Solar photovoltaic (PV) projects.
• Structural and Civil works associated with renewable energy facilities.
• Foundations and associated civil infrastructure.
• Experience with design in accordance with Eurocode.
• Experience with the Finite Element Method with a sound understanding of solid mechanics principles

Minimum Requirements

• BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering
• Minimum 4 years’ relevant post-graduate engineering experience.
• Experience in wind farm projects is strongly preferred, although relevant solar project experience will also be considered.
• Must be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA
• Sound knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles and construction practices.
• Sound knowledge of Limit State Design principles.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, specifications and construction documentation.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel and work on project sites as required.
• Experience in the following software: Revit and C3D with proven ability of parametric modeling
