Our client, a highly respected engineering consultancy with a strong focus on industrial and mining sectors, is seeking an accomplished Structural Engineer to join their expanding operations. This role is primarily based in our client's central hub, but due to the nature of our project portfolio, we are offering a remote-first opportunity for the right candidate. You will be responsible for the structural design, analysis, and integrity assessment of various industrial facilities, processing plants, and mine infrastructure. This position requires a deep understanding of structural mechanics, material behavior under extreme conditions, and adherence to stringent safety regulations prevalent in the mining and heavy industry environments. The opportunity to shape critical structural elements remotely is a unique prospect for a seasoned professional looking for flexibility. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and longevity of significant industrial assets across various regions, with a key focus on projects relevant to Rustenburg and its surrounding mining-intensive areas.
Perform structural analysis and design for steel and concrete structures, including buildings, heavy equipment foundations, conveyors, and plant support structures. Utilize advanced structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS) for design and modeling. Conduct site inspections and investigations (via remote means or occasional travel) to assess existing structures and gather data for design. Develop detailed structural drawings, calculations, and technical reports. Ensure designs comply with relevant South African National Standards (SANS), Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, and international codes. Collaborate closely with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions. Review shop drawings and construction submittals from contractors, providing timely technical responses. Provide technical expertise and support during the construction phase, including remote supervision and problem-solving. Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and industry best practices in structural engineering for industrial applications.
Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a closely related field. Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is mandatory. A minimum of 7 years of post-graduate experience specifically in structural engineering, with significant exposure to industrial and mining projects. Demonstrated expertise in designing heavy industrial structures, plant layouts, and foundations. Proficiency in industry-standard structural analysis and design software. Strong knowledge of material science and its application in structural design. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical information clearly. Proven ability to work autonomously and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a remote setting. Adaptability to changing project requirements and ability to work effectively in a virtual team environment.
